We just put our first batch of Salt Lake County juror data on our website today. We began collecting this data electronically during the pandemic to facilitate remote jury selection. https://www.slc.gov/courts/2022/09/26/jury-data/.

The nearly 100 charts include, among many other things, data on our jurors’ educational background, their treatment of law enforcement testimony, their racial background, and their zip codes (if you like kaleidoscopes, you will enjoy this one).

Endless thanks go to ’s data team, , the provider of our electronic jury surveys, and ’s . None of this would be possible without their hard work. We plan on releasing this data in regular intervals.

As of today, the CDC has designated Salt Lake County as having a HIGH community level of Covid-19. This means we will once again be requiring patrons to MASK UP at our courthouse, and will be following the yellow phase requirements of the State Judiciary’s response plan.

If you are visiting our court (or others in SLCo) in the coming days, please expect:
•. mask mandates
•. physical distancing
•. capacity limits
•. COVID-19 signage
•. COVID-19 screening
Please be patient with us—we will get through it together (but at a distance).

Congrats Judge Jojo Liu!

As of Monday, March 7, 2022, we will no longer be under a mask mandate at the SLC Justice courthouse (assuming Salt Lake County remains at the CDC’s yellow/medium level). Unvaccinated and/or individuals who are high-risk for CV19 are still strongly encouraged to wear masks.

Here is the full press release from the Utah State Courts: (1/7/2022) The Utah State Courts want to alert jurors and attorneys that jury trials are still taking place statewide. The Courts are conducting jury trials in compliance with the Utah State Judiciary Risk Phase Response Plan and are taking every possible safety measure including masking and social distancing when trials are held in person.

Jurors and attorneys should continue to appear as scheduled unless they are notified by the Court. Individual judges may be canceling some trials, but they will notify the jurors and other parties if that happens.

There has been some confusion about whether or not jury trials are canceled. That is because:

· Salt Lake City Justice Court suspended jury trials

· The U.S. District Court for the District of Utah (Federal) suspended jury trials

However, the federal court order and Salt Lake City justice court order do not affect jury trials happening in state district courts or other county or city justice courts.

The Utah State Courts will continue to carefully monitor COVID-19 case counts and consult with health officials moving forward. If any decision is made to cancel jury trials in the future, we will alert the public and the media immediately.
