A huge shout-out to the Democratic Club of Wicomico County and their phenomenal President—and our County Sheriff candidate—Lana Foley ☺️, who continues to lead the charge for introducing the community to those seeking to represent us.

Each meeting has a time for announcements - last night our Vice Chair shared some exciting updates, including important ballot updates and the latest on our highly anticipated June 7th Reception (see link in bio)

Then attendees heard from an incredible lineup of leaders who stepped up to serve our community. The past two Dem Club meetings have been dedicated to introducing our local candidates—the visionary leaders who are ready to take us in the exact direction we are looking for!

We absolutely love seeing the passion, collaboration, and collective effort of all our local Democratic groups and entities as we work hand-in-hand to expand representation and in our county. Let’s keep this incredible momentum going! 💙

Today the campaign features Michele W. Johnson.
********
My name is Michele W. Johnson. I am running for delegate in district 37B because I could not stand by and watch the Republican incumbents get a free pass for another four years, or while our rights and freedoms are endangered by our federal government.

As the granddaughter of immigrants, preserving our rights at the state level will be my focus as your delegate. My interests are voting rights, affordability and access, and protecting our immigrant neighbors, small businesses, farmers, families, youth, seniors, and veterans.

As a native Marylander and first-generation college graduate with degrees from the University of Maryland and the University of Virginia, my eastern shore story began when I met my husband, Paul, whose family has lived on the lower shore since the early 1600s. We have been married 40 years and have two grown children.

We are a family that serves; my Dad served in the Army, my father-in-law in the Coast Guard. My career has been devoted to public service, working in transportation planning, higher education affordability, and community leadership in the nonprofit sector and federal government, and I now serve as a director in state government. I served as board chair of Congressman Elijah Cummings’ Youth Program, on a county Board of Zoning Appeals, and on advocacy committees of national organizations focused on higher education affordability.

It was an honor to serve as the lead advocate for a successful first in the nation bill protecting private scholarships earned by low-income Maryland students and to lead a successful fight for a new elementary school to relieve overcrowding. I know my way around Annapolis, am well connected, know how things work, and know how to get things done.

I respectfully request your vote to give district 37B a voice and a seat at the table.

There is nothing quite like the energy of a room filled with dedicated people pulling in the exact same direction. At our Wicomico Democratic Central Committee meeting tonight we had 100% attendance both filling seats in person or logging in across the screen on Zoom. Every voice was present and ready to work.

What made the evening truly powerful was the depth of perspective in the room. It was a perfect example of what happens when diverse thought and varied backgrounds come together for a single, common goal. We didn't just spend the evening discussing high-level visions; we did the real work of mapping out concrete, strategic steps for ex*****on in our ongoing fight for democracy right here in our community.

When you pair that level of diverse insight with actionable plans, the momentum becomes unstoppable. We are organized, focused, and moving forward together—stay tuned for what's next!

🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR MAIL-IN VOTERS 🚨
We recognize that mistakes can happen, and we thank the Maryland State Board of Elections for taking the steps to rectify this situation as quickly as possible. While ballot errors can be frustrating, the issue was identified publicly, the Board acknowledged a vendor printing mistake, immediately notified voters, and they are reissuing ballots to protect the integrity of our election.

If you requested a mail-in ballot for the Gubernatorial Primary Election, please read the crucial details below on how this is being handled and what you need to do next.

🔍 WHAT HAPPENED?
Due to a printing process error by a vendor, some voters were mailed the incorrect party ballot. This specific error only affects voters who were mailed a ballot before May 14, 2026. If you requested a mail-in ballot and signed up for email or text updates, you will receive a digital notification within the next day or two.

Additionally, every single voter who requested a mail-in ballot will receive an explanatory postcard in the mail detailing the situation.

📋 HOW TO PROCESS YOUR BALLOT
The Board of Elections is automatically mailing a second ballot to all affected voters, and these envelopes will be clearly marked as a “Replacement Ballot” when they go out on May 29.

If you still have your original ballot, the Board instructions are to responsibly discard it and wait to mail in the second ballot instead.

If you have already mailed in or dropped off your first ballot, you must still fill out and send in the replacement ballot when it arrives. Because the initial incorrect ballots have been deleted from the system to protect the integrity of the vote, your first ballot will not be counted. You must submit the replacement ballot to ensure your vote is securely counted.
