There were lots of smiles at the Minnesota Veterans Homes - Luverne this week as Residents and their loved ones gathered for professional family portraits!

More than 49 residents and family groups participated, with everyone from newborn babies to favorite family dogs joining in the fun. One family even brought together 16 family members for their photo—a wonderful example of how meaningful this opportunity was for the Homes' Residents and their loved ones.

While Residents will get a sneak peek of their professional portraits in a few weeks, here are a few behind-the-scenes snapshots from photo day!

Residents from the Minnesota Veterans Homes - Fergus Falls joined in a meaningful afternoon at the annual Veterans Home Rest & Relaxation Summer Kickoff on June 6.

The Veterans Home Choir helped set the tone for the event with several patriotic songs, bringing Residents and guests together in celebration. Following the performance, attendees were invited to view a display featuring local Veterans and their dog tags.

A powerful moment came when Veteran Resident Rick recognized himself in one of the display photos—taken during his service in Vietnam. Rick was also there in person, singing with the choir that day, making the connection especially meaningful. Rick is a recipient of two Purple Hearts and it was an honor to recognize his service and sacrifice.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Minnesota Legislature passed and Governor Tim Walz signed the Veterans and Military Affairs Omnibus Bill into law.

This year's bill combines five Veteran focused bills into one package and passed without a single "no" vote—a testament to Minnesota's continued commitment to those who served.

As a Veterans Community Health Coordinator with MDVA, Chase Arden supports Veterans across southern Minnesota by building local partnerships, providing mental health training and connecting Veterans and families to critical resources.

“My why has always been making sure that Veterans know they are not alone and that there is always hope,” says Chase.

A U.S. Army Veteran who served 12 years with two deployments to Afghanistan, Chase brings lived experience and a deep commitment to helping fellow Veterans access the support they deserve.

“Every day offers the chance to make a real difference,” he shares.

Whether you're traveling across the country, exploring Minnesota, or enjoying a staycation close to home, consider sending a postcard to a Veteran Resident at one of Minnesota’s eight Veterans Homes.

Each postcard brings a smile, sparks memories, starts conversations and reminds Minnesota's Veterans that their service is remembered and appreciated. Last year, postcards arrived from near and far and Residents loved following along with the journeys.
