Veterans and employees at the Minnesota Veterans Homes - Preston came together to assemble 40 American flags, which now proudly line the driveway leading up to the Home.

The flags will be displayed throughout the year on flag holidays and special occasions, serving as a beautiful reminder of the freedom our Veterans have fought to protect.

Today, on Patriot Day and the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we are especially honored to have these flags lining the drive as Veterans, families, employees and visitors arrive at the Home.

May we always remember the lives lost, the heroes who stepped forward and the strength and unity of our nation. 🇺🇸

Remembering September 11, 2001 🇺🇸

Twenty-five years later, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001 and the families and communities forever changed by that day.

MDVA honors the first responders who ran toward danger, the service members who answered the call to defend our nation and all those who served in the years that followed.

Today, we pause to remember their courage, sacrifice and service.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Minnesota Veterans Homes - Silver Bay is hiring a Social Worker Senior. In this full-time, day-shift role, you will support Veterans and Residents through assessments, admissions and social services programming. Earn $54,538-$79,156 annually, plus comprehensive State benefits including health insurance,
retirement and paid time off.

Current Minnesota LSW licensure, or the ability to obtain it by date of hire, and one year of social work experience are required. Experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, senior housing or Veterans services is preferred.

As fair season comes to a close, the Bemidji Veterans Home thought these photos were just too good not to share! 🎡🐄

Residents and staff were lucky enough to visit the Beltrami County Fair—not once, but twice! From carnival games and farm animals to checking out the tractors and this year’s blue-ribbon winners, there was plenty to see and enjoy.

We also stopped by to say hi to our friends at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Harold Baggenstoss VFW Post 1260. And of course, enjoyed one of the most important parts of any fair visit: mini donuts!

Thanks to everyone who helped make our fair trips so much fun. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!

A summer full of memories!

Residents at the Bemidji Veterans Home made the most of this summer, with trips to the Beltrami County Fair, weekly fishing outings on Lake Bemidji with Fishing Has No Boundaries, a fish fry and plenty of “fruits” from the Homes own garden.

Residents visited the animal barns and checked out the new robot arena during two fair trips. And, of course, no trip to the fair is complete without fair food — although waiting for those mini donuts felt excruciating!

Thank you to the volunteers who helped make these outings possible and created opportunities for Residents to get out, have fun and make memories. 🫶

Employee Spotlight ✨

After graduating from the University of St. Thomas with a degree in broadcast journalism, Cole thought a career in television news was ahead. Two internships with the Minnesota House of Representatives sparked an interest in government and public service, leading to a full-time role at the House and eventually to MDVA in 2016.

Today, as MDVA’s Government Affairs Liaison, Cole uses those communication and government skills to advocate for Veterans and their families, helping move legislation forward and secure resources for the care, benefits and services Veterans have earned.
