Do you worry you won’t be able to breastfeed because others in your family had a hard time?

Every breastfeeding journey is different, and so is every infant. While family experiences can shape expectations, they don’t determine your outcome! Your body, your baby, and your support system all play a role—and with the right guidance, you can be successful!

If you’re feeling unsure, reaching out to lactation professionals (like those at WIC) can give you personalized support and encouragement.

WIC staff are there to help guide and support your journey. 💛

As you’re introducing allergenic foods (like nut butters, eggs, and dairy), it’s important to watch for any signs your infant is having an allergic reaction. If that happens, stop feeding the food and consult your health care provider for next steps.

It is springtime! After a long Minnesota winter, it is finally time to get outside and enjoy some fresh air! ☀️

Staying active with your kids is important. It can be challenging for working parents, but even small activities like taking a walk, visiting a park, or playing outside together can help your kids feel stronger and more energized.
Do not forget to stay hydrated. 💧

Bringing a water bottle and drinking water throughout the day is an easy way to increase your intake.

You can also make it fun—try creating drinks with your kids! Mixing plain sparkling water with a splash of 100% juice is a simple and tasty way to help kids stay hydrated while having fun, especially as the weather warms up.

Introducing allergenic foods early may help reduce the risk of developing food allergies. Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend introducing peanuts and eggs in an age-appropriate form starting around 6 months (not before 4 months) of age.

o Thin peanut butter by mixing 2 teaspoons with breastmilk, formula, or prepared infant cereal.
o Scramble eggs.

Introduce one food at a time and start with small amounts of single-ingredient foods.

Breast engorgement is very common in the first weeks of breastfeeding—and it can still take many new moms by surprise.

As your milk comes in, your breasts may feel full, firm, warm, or tender. This is a normal part of your body adjusting, but you don’t have to manage the discomfort on your own. Support from WIC lactation professionals can make a big difference.

You’re not alone—so many people go through this, and it usually gets better as your body finds its balance.
Your body is doing amazing work. 💛
