This Labor Day, we acknowledge the sacrifices and gains made by the American organized labor movement. Every standard you are owed by your employer was fought for and earned by workers. Labor Day, itself a paid holiday demanded by organized workers in the 1890s, is a reminder that your rights as a worker are never given freely and must be continually protected.

MPFF members representing all of us at the 58th Convention in Arlington!

Delegates from Saint Paul, Minneapolis, Oakdale, Burnsville, Duluth, Roseville, Eden Prairie, Hennepin Co. Paramedics & EMTs, and South Metro travelled to the biennial business meeting of the IAFF to work together and make this union stronger.

General President Kelly, General Secretary-Treasurer Lima and 5th District VP Mahlon Mitchell showed their support for All For One and One for North as they push to become a part of the IAFF.

Convention is underway! The biennial meeting of Local leaders from across the U.S. and Canada started today with a special appearance from our own Julie Paidar. Julie was instrumental in the passage of the Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act in 2025, and its corresponding legislation in Minnesota that guarantees the Public Safety Officers Benefit for firefighters who die in the line of duty from cancer.

Julie’s husband, Mike Paidar, was a Local 21 Brother and Saint Paul Fire Captain who made the supreme sacrifice on August 26, 2020 after contracting acute myeloid leukemia due to his work as a firefighter. In just over five years, Julie ensured that Mike’s legacy would live on in a profound way by promising that firefighter families who lose their loved one to cancer have every protection available to them when the unthinkable happens.

Julie was recognized by GP Kelly at Convention’s opening ceremony for her unyielding efforts to close the gap in legislation so that firefighter cancer deaths are recognized in exactly the same way as every other line-of-duty death. Attendees gave a standing ovation in recognition that her work will forever be a benefit American firefighters and their families.

Thank you Julie for your tireless efforts to support firefighters everywhere!

Organized labor has always been stronger when we work together! Joining International Association of Fire Fighters and MN Professional Firefighters is the next step for us in that journey. We have been proud to work with these groups, as well as Minnesota Nurses Association AFSCME Council 5 and many more to push for change at . Together unions are advocating for better conditions for workers, care for patients and responsible public safety.
