Clay Fire – Mutual Aid Response
This morning, Engine 381 and Water Tender 83 responded to assist and on the Clay Fire in Sacramento County. The fire was burning in a solar field under heavy power infrastructure — and pushing through dry grass.

Crews from all three agencies hit it fast, held it to 1 acre, and stopped forward progress before it could threaten critical infrastructure.

Vegetation Fire – Randolph Rd, Wilton

At 12:46 PM today, Wilton Fire Protection District responded to a vegetation fire near 11000 block of Randolph Rd. Crews arrived to find a 100x100 foot grass fire burning at a slow rate of spread, with no structures threatened.

Local bystanders were already using garden hoses to help slow the fire’s progress — a big thank you to those who stepped in to assist. Wilton crews quickly took control of the scene, with additional support from .

No injuries. No property damage.

Here’s how you can help:

✅ Stick to Safe and Sane fireworks — legal, labeled, and less likely to end with us at your door
🕘 Use is only legal June 28–July 4, from 9 AM to 10 PM
🚫 If it launches or explodes, it’s illegal - no matter how “cool” your uncle swears it is
💧 Soak used fireworks overnight in water
🌾 Light fireworks far away from dry grass, trees, and structures

Traffic Collision – Rollover Response
Alta Mesa Rd (between Hobday & Arno) – Wilton, CA
June 13, 2025 – 1926 hours

Wilton Fire crews, alongside our partners from , responded to a vehicle rollover on Alta Mesa Road just before 1930 hours. First arriving crews confirmed one vehicle on its roof, off the roadway, with significant damage.

The occupants had already self-extricated prior to our arrival—no entrapment or pin-in. The scene was secured, patients evaluated, and hazards mitigated while conducted the investigation.

These rural roads demand focus—especially at dusk. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.

Forward Progress Stopped

Yesterday, Wilton Fire Protection District responded to assist on a vegetation fire near the Cosumnes River drainage. Engine 381, Battalion 81, and Water Tender 83 rolled in as part of the mutual aid response, alongside our partners from Herald Fire Protection District. Thanks to a coordinated effort with Sac Metro, Herald Fire, and , forward progress was stopped at 9.9 acres.

This was a solid example of how teamwork across agencies keeps communities safe. It’s also a reminder: even a 10-acre grass fire can get dangerous fast if not hit early and hit hard.

Proud of the hard work from our crew. They showed up, suited up, and got it done. Strong work, gentlemen—Wilton showed up and handled business.

These conditions increase the risk of fast-moving vegetation fires in our area.

FIRE SAFETY REMINDER:
Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged after late morning, especially during the heat of the day when fire behavior intensifies.

[WILTON FIRE UPDATE]

Colony Fire – Walmort Road, Sacramento County

At approximately 12:57 PM today, fire crews responded to a vegetation fire near Walmort Road. The incident, now named the Colony Fire, is estimated at 1/4 acre with a slow rate of spread, according to initial radio traffic.

Wilton Fire and mutual aid partners are on scene working containment and monitoring conditions closely.

Fire Season Reminder:
Burn piles may be out—but they’re not always out cold. Always recheck for heat and embers, especially on warm, dry days like today.

Let’s not let small fires become big headlines.

Grass Fire Response Update – Arno Rd & Alta Mesa East

At approximately 6:30 PM on May 15th, Wilton Fire, along with Cosumnes Fire and Herald Fire, responded to a reported vegetation fire near Arno Rd and Alta Mesa East.

Crews arrived to find 1–2 acres burning in light, flashy fuels with a moderate rate of spread, made worse by afternoon winds. The fire was quickly contained thanks to a coordinated response and effective mutual aid support.

A preliminary investigation confirmed the cause to be mowing conducted for w**d abatement. While well-intended, mowing during hot, dry, and windy conditions increases the risk of ignition.

Wilton Fire would like to remind the community:
W**d abatement is critical, but timing is everything.

During fire season, always follow these mowing guidelines:
• Mow before 10 a.m., when conditions are cooler
• Avoid mowing on windy or high-risk fire weather days
• Clear dry grass from under and around equipment
• Avoid metal blades that can strike rocks and spark fires
• Keep water or a fire extinguisher nearby
