Down Syndrome Information Alliance

Down Syndrome Information Alliance DSIA provides support and resources to empower individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and our community.

We envision a community where people with Ds are empowered, respected as individuals, and accepted as valued participants in their community. DSIA was founded in 2004 by three families seeking greater access to support, information, and services in our community. Since then, we’ve grown as a dedicated non-profit organization serving Sacramento, Yolo, Placer, El Dorado, Nevada, Yuba, and Sutter cou

nties. We envision a community where people with Down syndrome are empowered, respected as individuals, and accepted as valued participants in neighborhood schools, community activities, and the business world.

🚲 Throwback Thursday: Remember Your First Ride? πŸ’™

For many of us, learning to ride a bike was a milestone we never forgot. The freedom. The confidence. The excitement of doing it on our own.

This summer, you can help create that same unforgettable moment for a rider in the iCan Shine Bike Program.

Our riders work hard all week to build balance, confidence, and independenceβ€”and volunteers play a huge role in making that success possible. No special experience is needed, just a positive attitude and a willingness to encourage and support participants.

✨ Just 75 minutes a day can help change a life.

Join us as we help individuals with disabilities discover the joy and freedom of riding a two-wheel bicycle independently.

πŸ“… Volunteer opportunities available throughout the week
🚲 Training provided
πŸ’™ Impact guaranteed

πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ World Bicycle Day is here! πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ

Today we celebrate the joy, freedom, and independence that comes with riding a bikeβ€”but for many individuals with disabilities, that milestone doesn’t happen without a little extra support.

That’s where you come in.

The iCan Shine Bike Program helps individuals learn to ride a two-wheel bike independently using adapted equipment, proven instruction, and an incredible team of trained volunteers. With just a bit of your time, you can help build confidence, independence, and unforgettable β€œI did it!” moments.

We are currently looking for volunteers to join us for upcoming sessions!
No special experience is neededβ€”just encouragement, patience, and a willingness to cheer on big wins (and small ones too).

Volunteers typically assist during daily 75-minute sessions across a 5-day program, helping riders gain balance, strength, and the joy of riding a bike on their own.

This World Bicycle Day, help make sure more riders get the chance to experience the freedom of two wheels.

πŸ’› Ready to make a difference? Join us as a volunteer and be part of something truly life-changing.

πŸ—³οΈ Today is Election Day πŸ—³οΈ

If you are eligible to vote, today is your opportunity to make your voice heard.

Voting is one way to participate in your community and contribute to decisions that shape local, state, and national priorities.

Polling locations are open for in-person voting, and many voters may also have access to drop boxes or mail-in ballot options depending on their county.

Take a moment to check your registration status, polling location, and hours of operation so you’re prepared.

Every eligible vote mattersβ€”plan ahead and make a plan to vote today.

πŸ’™ Mission Monday πŸ’™

At DSIA, we are committed to helping medical professionals better support families receiving a Down syndrome diagnosis β€” because words matter, and those moments stay with families forever.

Every diagnosis journey is different. By sharing your experience, you can help create more compassionate, informed conversations for future families. πŸ’›

Your story can:
✨ Encourage new parents
✨ Help shape DSIA’s outreach and education efforts
✨ Support healthcare providers in understanding the impact of how a diagnosis is delivered

Whether your experience was positive, challenging, or somewhere in between β€” your voice matters.

πŸ“ Share your story here:

Together, we can help ensure every family feels seen, supported, and welcomed from day one. πŸ’™πŸ’›
