We've got a lot of unique businesses in Rocklin, sometimes slightly off the beaten path. Please take the time to explore and support! Big things currently happening on Five Star Boulevard as Sports Basement prepares to open a 67,00-square-foot store (about an acre and a half!). Photos below of the current interior as well as other businesses. Shout out to the longtime businesses on Five Star like Five Star Auto Care, La Bou, IHOP, Scandanavian Designs, Beryozka European Food Market, KidsPark and more.

Rocklin lost an icon this weekend, Peter Hill. Peter spent 50 years living in Rocklin -- and 50 years dedicated to giving of himself to make it an extraordinary place to live.
He served on the School Board before joining the Council and devoting about 30 years to guiding the city through its growth and well-planned master communities like Stanford Ranch, Whitney Ranch, Whitney Oaks and more. He, along with his colleagues Kathy Lund and George Magnuson, was there to make so many things happen: from the moving and renovation of St. Mary's Church to well-planned schools and parks.
After leaving the Council in 2012 he remained very engaged, mentoring countless candidates and leaders and offering advice, perspective and history. He hosted a monthly 'former mayors' coffee with Councilmembers to give us feedback and ideas.
This summer he volunteered for the Yes on Measure C Committee that voters will decide in November -- a measure that would ensure Rocklin maintains excellent fire and police response times and high quality parks. He was fully supportive of it.
When the Council decided several years ago to personally fund several scholarships for graduating high school seniors in town, Peter suggested that we have former Councilmembers contribute, too. Every year he would be the first one to commit dollars to the program.
Peter had a lot of energy and a lot of years ahead of him to continue his service to our community. It's a tremendous loss of a leader and a friend for all of us.
Please take a few moments to read a tribute by the city to Peter at this link:

And below are photos from the dedication of the Peter Hill Heritage Park and the 2023 recognition of Peter, the late Kathy Lund and George Magnuson on the City's Wall of Recognition.

Great to spend time yesterday with two new leaders of important Rocklin institutions: Dr. Meghan Barnard, President of Jessup University, and Kathleen McCorry, new CEO of the Rocklin Area Chamber of Commerce. I'm looking forward to working with them as they continue great traditions of the institutions serving our community.
