In April 2017, Sacramento Move to Amend relaunched as a local affiliate of Move to Amend National Coalition. Please join us at our monthly meeting on the 4th Wednesday of each month from 6:30 to 8:30 at Move to Amend National Headquarters, 1404 Burnett Way, Sacramento, CA 95818. Newcomers are invited to come at 6:15 for a mini-orientation. We are building a nonpartisan grassroots movement to amend
the US Constitution to make clear that corporations and other artificial entities are not persons and money is not speech. Our work is grounded in an intersectional anti-oppression framework because corporate rule works hand-in-hand with structural oppression and its impacts on the lives of oppressed people have created deep and historically rooted inequities. On January 21, 2010, with its ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the Supreme Court ruled (in another of a long line of rulings that go back 131 years) that corporations are persons, entitled by the U.S. Constitution to buy elections and run our government. Human beings are people; corporations are legal fictions. The Supreme Court is misguided in principle, and wrong on the law. In a democracy, the people rule.
