During CPR & AED Awareness Week, we were honored to be a part of recognizing an extraordinary group of individuals whose actions demonstrated the power of the Chain of Survival.

When a local student experienced a medical emergency at West Park High School, a teacher immediately called for help, a school nurse quickly began CPR and used an AED, a City of Roseville, California Police Department School Resource Officer helped coordinate the scene, Roseville Police and Fire dispatchers ensured the appropriate resources were quickly dispatched to the scene, Roseville Firefighters provided advanced life support medical treatment, American Medical Response - Sacramento Valley EMS paramedics treated and transported the patient, and Kaiser Roseville Hospital staff continued critical care upon the patients arrival at the ER.

Thank you to everyone who played a role in this remarkable team effort and for your commitment to serving our community. This students story reminds us that lives are rarely saved by one person alone. Because of all of the individuals involved in this Chain of Survival, a young person now has the opportunity to continue living, learning, and pursuing their future.

This afternoon at 12:29, Roseville Fire Dispatchers began receiving multiple reports of a fire in the yard of a home. The fire was reported as a tree on fire from a controlled burn and quickly spreading.

This first arriving Roseville unit was on scene at 12:34, and found a detached outbuilding on fire with lots of vegetation surrounding it and quickly spreading fueled by strong winds. Multiple other fire units were on scene shortly after, including mutual aid from Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District. An aggressive fire attack operation kept the fire contained and did not extend to any additional structures.

Some residents in the area were briefly evacuated by City of Roseville, California Police Department and Placer County Sheriff's Office from their homes and have since been allowed back in. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Red Flag Warning conditions create a dangerous environment for outdoor burning. With dry vegetation, low humidity, and strong winds, fires can spread rapidly and become uncontrollable within minutes. Please avoid outdoor burning during Red Flag Warning days and help keep our community safe.

Multiple fire and police units are on scene of a fire in a detached outbuilding in the Cresthaven neighborhood. The fire is under control at this time and no structures or other building are threatened.

Heads up neighbors of Woodcreek High School, there will be fireworks at the school tonight, Friday, May 15, at approximately 8:45 p.m.

Update: SIREN TESTING HAPPENING TODAY (Thursday, May 7) at approximately 12 noon.

You may have noticed that yesterday’s scheduled Union Pacific siren test was not heard in some surrounding neighborhoods. During the test, Union Pacific identified an issue with the broadcast system. This is exactly why regular testing is conducted, to ensure the system is functioning properly and to identify any problems that need attention.

Union Pacific has been working to address the issue and will be conducting the siren test today (Thursday, May 7) at noon to confirm the system is operating correctly. We appreciate their partnership and thank the community for your patience and understanding.

Union Pacific Railroad will be testing their Emergency Notification System at the J.R. Davis Yard on Wednesday, May 6 at noon.

Residents in the vicinity of the railyard may hear the emergency notification broadcast siren testing. These routine tests of the system are coordinated to ensure the functionality of the system and happen on the first Wednesday in February, May, August, and November at 12 noon.

Here are steps that we recommend all residents take to prepare for any emergency that might affect our region:
- Register for Placer Alert (www.placer-alert.org). This is an emergency notification system used by our Fire and Police departments to notify residents of emergency situations that may affect them and would be used in conjunction with the Union Pacific siren should there be an incident at the railyard where residents needed to be notified. If you wish to receive these notifications on your cell phone, you have to register your information.

- Be prepared should you need to evacuate. More tips on how to be prepared can be found at www.ready.gov

- Some emergency notification systems (such as a siren) can only transmit limited data and in the case of the siren only to a limited area. Many times information during emergencies remains dynamic and can change frequently. We encourage all residents to be signed up to receive emergency alerts (www.placer-alert.org) and to know where to look for additional verified information when they receive or hear a notification.

4/23 Thursday 9:30 p.m. update. - All roadways are now open. One of the cars involved in today’s incident was an electric vehicle.

5:15 p.m. - Roseville Fire is on scene of a multi vehicle fire on northbound Sunrise Avenue just past Cirby Way. The fire is currently out and all of the vehicles involved were on a transport truck.

Currently northbound Sunrise Avenue between Cirby Way and approximately Madden Lane is closed to traffic. Please avoid the area as the road will be closed for an extended period of time.

04/20/2026

Update 9:15 p.m. - Northbound and southbound Foothills Blvd. between Cirby Way and Denio Loop is anticipated to be closed until 5:00 a.m. Monday (4/20) morning.

Foothills Blvd. from Denio Loop north to Vineyard has been reopened to vehichle traffic.

8:00 p.m. - On camera media requests can connect with department personnel who will be on scene at 2005 Hilltop Circle in the parking lot.

7:25 p.m.- 12 rail cars were involved in the derailment with 2 cars that were affected by fire. Our crews remain on scene working to mitigate hazards caused by the incident.

No injuries have been reported at this time and there is no threat to the life safety of those in the area.

7:15- The fire is out at this time. There remains no immediate threat to life safety of those in the area at this time.

7:00 p.m.- Crews are on scene and working a derailment on the tracks under the Foothills overpass. One car is on fire at this time. There is no immediate threat to life safety of those in the area at this time.

6:40 p.m. - Roseville Fire is working an incident at the Union Pacific railyard.

Roseville police currently have North and Southbound Foothills Blvd. from Cirby Way to Vineyard Rd. shut down. This closure is expected for an extended period of time.
