🌟 BHCIP Highlight: Kaweah Groundbreaking Ceremony 🌟
On May 28, Kaweah Delta Health Care District celebrated a major milestone in Visalia with the groundbreaking of its Child/Adolescent Addition to the Mental Health Hospital. Supported by $8.78 million through DHCS’ Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program (BHCIP), this project will create a new 22 bed acute psychiatric hospital dedicated to serving children and adolescents in Tulare County.

This investment strengthens local inpatient behavioral health capacity and expands access to urgently needed youth mental health services. More progress to come as BHCIP continues investing in California’s behavioral health infrastructure. 🌱💙 https://infrastructure.buildingcalhhs.com/

State Medicaid Director Tyler Sadwith today underscored what’s at stake as federal Medicaid cuts and the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) funding deferral moves forward. Appearing on Forum, Sadwith emphasized that these federal actions could have far‑reaching consequences for Medi-Cal, including potential coverage losses for more than a million Californians and major financial strain on hospitals and clinics statewide.

Sadwith also made clear that California is working urgently with federal partners to defend key programs like IHSS, noting that the deferral is unprecedented, not based on any findings of fraud or misuse, and threatens services that help vulnerable Californians remain safely at home.

At a time of historic pressure on public health coverage, Sadwith continues to highlight the state’s commitment to protecting Medi-Cal members, maintaining access to care, and pushing for clarity and fairness in federal oversight.

We’ll take stock of what the new Medi-Cal landscape means for everyone’s access to health care in California and the Bay Area.

Real change takes more than funding; it takes seeing the process through. Under Behavioral Health Transformation, counties must submit three-year integrated plans showing how behavioral health dollars will be used, what outcomes will be measured, and how workforce needs will be addressed.

This month, we celebrate a significant milestone – all counties submitted their draft Integrated Plans and are well on their way to meeting the June 30th deadline for final Integrated Plans. Integrated Plans represent a significant step forward in transparency for behavioral health services and funding.
