Southern California is expected to experience higher-than-normal temperatures heading into the weekend. Extreme heat can increase the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke, especially for older adults, young children, and individuals with certain health conditions. The California Department of Public Health recommends taking steps to stay safe during hot weather, such as staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, resting in shaded or air-conditioned areas, and wearing lightweight clothing. Planning activities earlier in the morning or later in the evening can also help reduce heat exposure.
