We approached Gov. Gavin Newsom after he signed the Truth in Disclosure Act to ask him if he’d continue to build on this important piece of reparative legislation by committing to our repair mandate and…. it looks like he’s open to it.

But just like it took our movement to pressure him to sign the Truth in Disclosure Act in the first place, we’re going to have to do the same to get him to fully commit to repair, so join our California pod or a pod near you to get our political leaders to champion repair and true equality.

Because we want it that way.

Fannie Lou Hamer fought for the right of Black people to vote — and for the power of ordinary people to shape what happens in our communities.

That fight not over.

We’re protecting our vote by voting early, helping our people know their rights, and making sure every vote gets counted.

Governor Newsom signed AB 2599, the Truth In Disclosure Act, into law.

California's largest corporations will now have to formally disclose their ties to chattel slavery. This is accountability in action.

Thank you to Assemblymember Issac Bryan Isaac G. Bryan and our dedicated and driven coalition members who helped make this a reality.

Reparations are not a distant idea, they are happening NOW!

AB 2599 was just the first step, stay tuned. 👀

Newsom: you can’t run for President if you run from reparations

Members of our Get Free Bay Area pod showed up to the governors office today to deliver a letter to Newsom demanding that he listen to Black Californians and the majority of California State Legislatures by signing the Truth in Disclosure Act.

The Truth in Disclosure Act would require corporations based in California with annual revenue of +$100 million to disclose whether they ever profited from enslavement. This would be a huge step towards our country reckoning with the harms of the past and making the wealthy pay what they owe and return what they stole from Black communities.

This would be a huge step towards our country reckoning with the harms of the past and making the wealthy pay what they owe and return what they stole from Black communities.

It’s time for Gavin Newsom to show he’s serious about equality. You can’t run for President if you run away from reparations.

Use tool in our bio to demand the Governor signs the Truth and Disclosure Act into law.

Bay Area showed up.

Last week our network gathered in the Bay to get into alignment on what’s coming for Black California this November - and the systems we’re building to protect each other and grow our power together.

Land. Democracy. Reparations. Community control. This is what the work looks like when we’re in the room together.

More convenings coming. The network is moving.

The garlic powder recall is Canada only y’all. 😅

However!

Swipe left because there IS a food safety crisis happening right now that directly affects Black communities in America.

And it’s been happening for two years.
