In my board comments tonight, I acknowledged the passing of Dolly Parton. Her willingness to dedicate her wealth and fame to advancing literacy is a testament to her character, and something I have admired for years. Her own father didn't know how to read, and his struggles inspired her Imagination Library, which sends free books to children from birth to kindergarten.

Last weekend, Maren and I attended the re-opening of the Auburn Library, which had been closed for an 18-month renovation project. As a member of the Placer County Library Advisory Board, I loved catching up with former Supervisor Jim Holmes, who recommended me for my first appointment to the board, and Supervisor Anthony DiMattei, who recommended me for this term. I am so appreciative of the entire Board of Supervisors, who contributed 4.9 million dollars in matching funds for the project.

The ribbon cutting event was well-attended, and I commented to Maren that it feels great to be around so many people who love books! I think she was most moved by the giant scissors and the delicious Baker and Cakemaker cupcakes! Regardless, I don't think I'll have to convince her too hard to join me at the next community event πŸ˜†

The Rocklin City Council recognized our Whitney and Rocklin High students who participated in the 2026 Summer Civic Career Program this year. It was reported that all of the students enjoyed the program, and that it sparked an interest to think about what kind of career they want to pursue in the future. Thank you so much to all of the City of Rocklin staff who made this possible, as well as to the Rocklin Educational Excellence Foundation for their contribution, and the Rocklin Unified School District for their support. This program is open to RUSD students during the summer going into their senior year; keep this in mind for any of your children who may be interested in a career in police, fire, or public works!

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Breen Elementary, Cobblestone Elementary, Quarry Trail Elementary, Rocklin Elementary, Ruhkala Elementary, and Valley View Elementary for earning Platinum Recognition for their implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)....AND to Antelope Creek Elementary, Granite Oaks Middle School, Parker Whitney Elementary, Rock Creek Elementary, Sierra Elementary, Spring View Middle School, Sunset Ranch Elementary, and Twin Oaks Elementary for earning Gold Recognition!

I appreciate our RUSD teachers and staff for looking for the good in our students and providing them with praise and recognition for their positive words and actions. Nothing compares to seeing your child's face light up when they're called at a school assembly, or hearing their excitement when they tell you what they earned at school by being a great classmate and friend. This is how strong campus communities are created!

I was so impressed by the number of high school parents who showed up to Back to School Night and followed their child's schedule for an evening! We're all in this together, and it's great to see the support that our kids have when attending our high schools. Thank you to the teachers who put together valuable information, presented it, and answered questions on the fly. I think we're off to an incredible 26-27 school year! 🐾⚑

My only complaint is that, with a new high schooler, I had to rush from class to class instead of meandering around the campus, popping into classes like I normally would πŸ˜† Those 5-minute passing periods are no joke--I was power walking!

I was saddened to hear that my friend and mentor, Peter Hill, passed away yesterday. Anyone who is fortunate enough to call Rocklin home has benefited from Peter's decades of service to our community. He served as an RUSD Board Trustee, and, most notably, as a member of the Rocklin City Council for over three decades (Mayor six times, I believe!).

Peter's guidance resulted in our thoughtfully planned neighborhoods, beautiful parks, and excellent schools. I have enjoyed our coffees and discussions over the past six years, and I hope he knew how much I valued his wisdom and support. Knowing that Peter believed in me means so much: He was a man who always did his research, possessed a wealth of knowledge, and was a fundamentally honest and principled person.

While we won't be sharing any more coffee chats this election season, I will be thinking of him often as I navigate the next couple of months. Also, sending love to his wife, Janet, his brother, children, and grandchildren ❀

Consider taking a trip to Peter Hill Heritage Park down on Front Street sometime soon, and learn a bit more about him.

Your support will ensure that I'm able to reach all Area 2 voters this November. A donation of any amount will help me to send out mailers, share messages via social media, and purchase yard signs. I would love to see you at Primo on Sept 2nd and keep building the positive momentum that we have going. Thanks for your consideration!

PS: Let me know if you want a yard sign this fall πŸ‘

It's so exciting to see our district administrators, teachers, psychologists, and counselors getting trained on Rocklin Unified's new Behavior Support Model before the start of the new school year!

As a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), I have loved collaborating with our RUSD team to address behavior challenges that have been identified in our schools. It's a priority of mine that every student has access to a safe, supportive environment to do their best learning. Our youngest students will benefit greatly from positive, proactive strategies to help them adjust to the school setting, and our teachers and site staff will have resources to problem-solve and keep their classrooms running smoothly πŸ™‚

Another great event in the books. Thanks, Snowie King! I loved talking with everyone who stopped by (or pulled over!) to cool off with a snow cone and talk about Rocklin schools! T-minus 5 days until the 1st day of school πŸ˜€
