The art behind the movement. Lalo Alcaraz’s artwork helped our message come to life using creativity to remind us that democracy works best when everyone can participate.

We’re grateful to Lalo for partnering with California Democracy Partnership and using his art to elevate the importance of civic engagement and voting rights.

Art has the power to start conversations. Democracy depends on all of us continuing them. ✊🏼

The California Democracy Partnership gathered at the State Capitol this week for a lobby day in support of the California Voting Rights Act.

From powerful conversations with lawmakers to showcasing artwork that reflects the importance of protecting every Californian’s right to vote, the day was a reminder that our democracy is strongest when every voice is heard.

Together, we’re working to ensure California remains a leader in expanding access to the ballot and protecting the right to vote.

The California Democracy Partnership, a powerful group of labor leaders, voting rights advocates, and community organizers committed to protecting and strengthening our democracy in California, today responded to the Supreme Court striking down Louisiana’s congressional map.

The ruling eviscerates Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act and opens the door for states to enact discriminatory maps with impunity, leaving, Black, Latino, and AAPI voters, as well as other voters of color, potentially facing the elimination of districts across the country that have provided fair representation.

NEW: Polling from Berkeley IGS released this week shows that across party lines, protecting voters’ rights and defending our democracy are top priorities for an overwhelming majority of California voters regardless of political party.

Of the voters polled:

🗳️ 89% believe American democracy is being tested or is under attack.
🗳️ 86% support taking steps to strengthen our democracy and voting rights.
🗳️ 79% are concerned about efforts to suppress, intimidate and disenfranchise voters
🗳️ 91% support the Federal Voting Rights act.
🗳️ A strong majority oppose rolling back protections that prevent voter discrimination and protect equal access to the ballot.
🗳️ 69% support strengthening California’s Voting Rights Act in the face of the Supreme Court rolling back protections.

So we’re going to do just that. The California Democracy Partnership is working hard to pass the California Voting Rights Act of 2026 to prevent voter suppression and vote dilution, give voters the tools to defend their rights, and expand access to the ballot.
