⚠️ SCAM ALERT ⚠️

The Golden Valley County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of scam phone calls from individuals claiming to be with Medicare and asking for your Medicare and Social Security information.

These calls are fraudulent. Medicare will not call you unexpectedly to request your personal or financial information over the phone.

Scammers are also spoofing local phone numbers to make it appear as though the call is coming from someone in your community. Do not trust Caller ID alone.

Please remember:
• Never give your Medicare number, Social Security number, banking information, or other personal information to unsolicited callers.
• If you receive one of these calls, hang up immediately.
• If you are asked for personal information over the phone or believe you have been targeted by a scam, please report it to your local law enforcement agency.

Please help protect your family, friends, and neighbors by sharing this information—especially with older adults who are often targeted by these scams.

🔥 Fire Season Safety Reminder 🔥

With fire season in full swing, it’s important we all take steps to prevent equipment-caused fires. Here are a few key safety tips to help protect your property, equipment, and community:

🚜 Keep equipment clean – Remove dry debris and dust buildup regularly.
🌅 Start early – Beat the heat by working in cooler parts of the day.
🌾 Avoid parking near flashy fuels – Dry grass can ignite quickly.
💧 Be prepared – Always carry water, a fire extinguisher, and a shovel.
👀 Stay alert – Continuously survey the work site for possible ignitions.
📞 In case of fire, call 911 immediately.

🚒 We also highly recommend having at least 200 gallons of water with a pump on-site while haying or harvesting.

🌞 Extreme Heat Expected This Weekend 🌞

Please take precautions as dangerously hot temperatures are expected this weekend.

💧 Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.

🐾 Make sure your pets have access to plenty of fresh, cool water and shade. Never leave pets or children in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.

👵👴 Check in on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to the heat. A quick phone call or visit can make a big difference.

☀️ If possible, avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, wear light-colored clothing, and take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.

Please stay safe, look out for one another, and help keep our community healthy during this extreme heat.
