RYE — The Town of Rye shares the following information regarding a new ordinance that affects parking along Ocean Boulevard.

The Select Board approved the new parking ordinance in a public meeting on May 11, 2026. The change was the result of an extensive review by the Town, Department of Public Works, and the Police Department.

The review determined that parking along sections of Ocean Boulevard/Route 1A reduced the line of sight and created potential hazards for motorists and pedestrians. The changes are consistent with the Town's commitment to protecting the safety of residents and visitors.

As part of the ordinance, the Town is required to notify the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, which is responsible for Route 1A as a state road. NHDOT recently began installing signage.

The Town, Police Department, and Department of Public Works thank the community for its understanding and patience as this significant parking change is implemented.

It's Public Works Week! And what better time to share we were selected as Outstanding Public Works Department of the Year for New Hampshire. This award would not be possible without the dedication of the men and women involved in Rye Public Works. The efforts of the DPW tend to go unnoticed when everything is functioning property, yet behind all of that is a group of hardworking individuals who take pride in what they do, often without recognition.
