Corey Meyer has announced his candidacy for Russell County Sheriff, citing deep local roots and a career dedicated to public service.
Meyer was born and raised in Russell County. He and his wife, Kayla, are the parents of two children, Emersyn and Barrett.
After graduating from high school, Meyer began serving the people of Russell County in public safety. He started his career with Russell County EMS as a certified EMT before joining the Russell County Sheriff’s Office. During his time with the department, Meyer served as a court security deputy, patrol deputy, and school resource officer.
Meyer said he believes the role of sheriff should be hands-on and centered on serving the public.
“The Sheriff should be present, approachable, and working for the people every day,” Meyer said.
If elected, Meyer said his priorities include being an active, working sheriff visible in the community on a daily basis, ensuring 24-hour patrol coverage for Russell County residents, and working closely with local, state, and federal partners to combat drug trafficking.
He also emphasized transparency as a core principle of his administration, stating he would provide openness in the day-to-day operations of the Sheriff’s Office.
“Russell County is my home,” Meyer said. “I am committed to protecting our community and our families.”
