Being a good steward of our community's resources is one of the responsibilities I take most seriously as your Alvin ISD Trustee.
At our September 8 board meeting, we adopted the 2026-27 tax rate at $1.1249 per $100 of valuation. That is a reduction of $0.0251 from last year. It reflects who we want to be as a district: responsible with your dollars while never losing sight of our students.
What makes me proud is that fiscal discipline and investing in our kids are not in conflict. In the same meeting, we approved a teacher residency partnership with the University of Houston-Clear Lake to strengthen our pipeline of great teachers, and we took the next step toward opening Emmitt Miller Elementary in 2027 to keep pace with our growth.
Lowering the tax rate while continuing to invest in classrooms and plan responsibly for the future is exactly the balance our families deserve.
I also want to congratulate Dr. Rhonda Mason - Alvin ISD Superintendent on her first 100 days leading Alvin ISD. She stepped in and chose to listen first, holding 119 documented conversations with families, staff, and community partners before setting priorities. That kind of leadership sets the right tone, and the work she has already put in shows a real commitment to our students and our community. I am excited to see where she takes us.
Thank you for trusting me to represent you. I am proud of the work this board is doing, and we are just getting started.
