🎆 WHY ARE ALL FIREWORKS ILLEGAL IN ROHNERT PARK? 🎆

On September 14, 2021, Rohnert Park voters officially approved Measure D, making the sale and use of ALL fireworks illegal within city limits — including previously legal “Safe & Sane” fireworks.

The measure was adopted to help reduce:

🔥 Grass fires 🔥 Structure fires 🚑 Injuries 🐾 Impacts to pets 🚓 Emergency calls and neighborhood disruptions

During dry summer conditions, even a small spark can quickly become a major emergency.

We know the 4th of July is an exciting holiday, and there are still plenty of great ways to celebrate:

🍔 BBQs 🎵 Music & parties ✨ Glow sticks & LED fun 🎆 Professional fireworks shows 🇺🇸 Community events

Let’s work together to keep Rohnert Park safe, festive, and fire-free this summer.

A Muddy Reminder to Keep Your Pet Leashed 🐾

Sunny and her owner were out for a walk when she got away, slipped down an embankment into a creek, and became stuck in the mud with no way out.

Community Service Officer Ponica responded and was able to safely retrieve Sunny from the creek and bring her back to dry ground. The good news: Sunny is okay. The better reminder: it doesn’t take long for a brief moment of distraction to turn into a dangerous situation.

Dogs can get into trouble fast—especially near creeks, parks, sidewalks, and other public areas. Even the most well-behaved pets can slip, panic, or wander into situations where they can’t safely get themselves out.

A reminder that Rohnert Park requires dogs to be on a leash at all times in public areas, unless they are in a city-maintained dog park.

🔄🎶 “We Didn’t Know We Needed to Explain This” — Turning Movements Edition 🎶🔄

🎵 Turn around… every now and then we remember intersections are not a group improv exercise… 🎵

Back again with your friendly public service reminder on how turning works in California.

➡️ Right Turn on Red
Yes, you can turn right on red after a complete stop and when it’s safe.
No, “rolling hesitation” is not a legal stopping method. That’s just optimism with momentum.

↖️ Flashing Yellow Left Turn Arrow
It means you may turn left when safe after yielding.
Not:
❌ waiting for a personal invitation
❌ panic acceleration into traffic
❌ interpreting it as a moral dilemma

↩️ U-Turns
Legal in many areas unless posted otherwise.
Not legal:
🚫 “I missed my exit emotionally” mid-intersection
🚫 weaving across lanes like you’re escaping a car commercial
🚫 turning so aggressively you surprise yourself

🔄 Turning Into the Correct Lane
Right turn → right lane.
Left turn → left lane.
Not: “let’s see where destiny places me.”

💡 TURN SIGNALS (yes, still this)
We covered this recently. Some drivers appear to be treating it as optional storytelling.

Your signal is not:
❌ a mystery
❌ a late-stage plot twist
❌ something you activate after the turn has already begun

It’s supposed to come before the movement so everyone else can safely react.

🚗 Do NOT sit behind a vehicle and lay on the horn or try to “scoot around” them to make your turn
Here’s the thing:
They might be going straight.
They might be preparing to turn safely.
They might be stopped for a pedestrian, a cyclist, or even a creature just trying to cross the road and exist in peace.

None of those situations improve with your horn soundtrack or surprise passing attempt.

You can wait. Patiently.
It’s not a race. It’s traffic.

🚶 Pedestrians & Cyclists Exist During Turns
Even when inconvenient. Especially when inconvenient.

Drive safe, signal early, and remember: intersections work better when everyone isn’t auditioning for “fastest assumption wins.” 🚓

☀️🥵 HOT THURSDAY AHEAD — STAY COOL, ROHNERT PARK! 🥵☀️

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Sonoma County, including Rohnert Park, for Thursday afternoon.

A Heat Advisory means temperatures will be high enough to increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and those without access to cooling.

💧 Beat the Heat:
✅ Drink plenty of water throughout the day
✅ Take frequent breaks if working outdoors
✅ Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
✅ Keep blinds and curtains closed during the day
✅ Open windows in the evening and early morning to let cooler air in
✅ Use air conditioning or visit a cool public place if possible
✅ Check on family, friends, neighbors, and anyone who may need assistance

💦 Looking for a way to cool off?
The City Center Plaza Splash Pad is open and ready for families looking to beat the heat.

🏊 Need a swim?
Magnolia Pool will be open for adult lap swimming on Thursday:
• 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
• 4:30 PM – 7:00 PM

🌊 Heading to the coast to escape the heat?
You're not the only one. If you're visiting Sonoma Coast beaches, be aware that strong currents and hazardous ocean conditions are expected. Never turn your back on the ocean, keep a close eye on children, and stay well back from rocks, jetties, and steep shorelines where unexpected waves can occur.

🐾 Don't forget your pets. Provide plenty of water and shade, and avoid walks on hot pavement during the hottest part of the day.

A little preparation goes a long way. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and enjoy the day safely. ☀️💙

It’s that time of year again—please take a moment to check your evacuation zone and make sure you know it ahead of the anticipated Red Flag Warning.

Red Flag conditions are expected from Wednesday evening through Thursday afternoon. While this does not mean an evacuation will occur, it’s a good reminder to make sure you are prepared.

Preparedness starts with knowing your zone. Take a moment to confirm your evacuation zone name and make sure you also know the zones for your loved ones—this includes where they live, go to school, work, or spend time during the day. In an emergency, conditions can change quickly, and having this information ready helps you respond faster and reduce confusion.

Make a simple plan with your household: know where you would go, how you would leave, and what important items you would take if you had to evacuate quickly.

To sign up for local emergency alerts, obtain preparedness information, and evacuation resources, visit: https://rpcity.org/314/Emergency-Alerts-Preparedness

If evacuation notices or urgent updates are issued, information will be shared through a variety of alerting methods, including social media, NIXLE, and smartphones.

A few minutes of preparation now can make all the difference later.

🥵 Increased Heat and Elevated Fire Weather Wednesday into Thursday this week.🔥

A Red Flag Warning is in effect for the hills and mountains east of Rohnert Park closer to Sonoma (East Bay Hills / North Bay Interior Mountains) from Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.

We’re expecting hot, dry, and windy conditions in those areas, including:
• Gusty winds up to 45 mph (higher on ridges)
• Very low humidity (12–18%)

These conditions can increase fire risk in dry grass and open space areas in the hills.

Good time for a quick check-in:

• Stay cool and limit heat exposure if you can
• Keep phones and devices charged
• Make sure your car has fuel
• Have a small “just in case” plan ready (keys, meds, basics)

And as always:
• No outdoor burning
• Avoid anything that could create sparks
• Don’t toss ci******es outside

🚨 67 MPH IN A 35 MPH ZONE 🚨

This speed was recently recorded on Snyder Lane.

Even though school is out for the summer, Snyder Lane still sees plenty of pedestrian traffic, families out walking, people riding bikes and scooters, and kids enjoying their break.

Driving 67 mph in a 35 mph zone isn't just a traffic violation—it's a serious safety risk. At that speed, drivers have significantly less time to react to unexpected hazards, and the consequences of a collision can be devastating.

Please slow down, stay alert, and help keep our community safe for everyone using our roads.

🏫 School may be out, but safety never takes a summer vacation.
