Today marks twenty-five years since September 11, 2001 โ€” a day that changed our nation forever. We pause to remember the 2,977 lives lost, and the families who carry that loss with them every single day since.

We remember the first responders โ€” the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and everyday heroes โ€” who ran toward danger when every instinct told them to run away. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

To the members of our own law enforcement family, and to every first responder who serves Hawkins County: thank you. Your commitment reflects the same spirit that carried our nation through one of its darkest hours.

In the days after 9/11, our country stood united โ€” as neighbors, as first responders, as Americans. That unity is a legacy worth protecting, today and always.

We will never forget those we lost, those who served, and the strength we found together.

In the early morning hours of September 6, 2026, vandals took Hawkins County communication towers offline. Additional cellular and private communication towers were also damaged and burglarized.

Shortly after 5:00 a.m., the Hawkins County EMA and E-911 Director restored emergency services to operational status.

Hawkins County Sheriffโ€™s Office Detectives and the Fugitive Unit immediately launched an investigation. At approximately 3:00 p.m., deputies took a male suspect into custody. Items connected to the thefts and vandalism were recovered.

As this remains an ongoing investigation, no further details are available for release at this time. Updates will be provided as they become available.

Severe Weather Update

Our deputies are currently working to clear trees blocking roadways across the county while continuing to respond to all normal calls for service. We appreciate your patience as we work through storm-related impacts.

If your home has sustained damage, please call 911 so we can send someone out to assist you.

If you only need to report information for insurance or documentation purposes and do not need a deputy to respond in person, a call to 911 to give your information will be sufficient.

For non-emergency questions or concerns, you can reach us at 423-272-7121.

Please stay safe, watch for downed trees and power lines, and thank you for your continued patience and cooperation during this time.
