Today marks the 25th anniversary of a day that most of us will remember for the rest of our lives—a day that will forever be taught in our schools and remembered throughout our nation.
When we think of September 11, 2001, so many of us can remember exactly where we were and what we were doing. We remember the first news reports of a plane crashing into the North Tower. We remember the uncertainty and confusion, followed by the realization that we were under attack.
We remember fighter jets overhead, the National Guard mobilized, and travel in and out of New York City coming to a halt. Most of all, we remember the brave first responders who, without hesitation, rushed toward danger with only one thought in mind: how many lives they could save.
That day, the ultimate sacrifice was made by so many—and the sacrifices continue today for those who responded and still live with the effects of 9/11.
Mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, friends, neighbors, and loved ones were lost.
Twenty-five years ago, we made a promise to never forget.
I ask you to join us today from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the gazebo next to the Rockaway Borough Library as we come together as a community to honor the victims and first responders of 9/11 let’s keep our promise as a community as a nation to Never Forget.
