This weekend was one of those reminders that community is not just a word, it is an action.
While the cold pressed in, The Third Place QC and our incredible volunteers showed up serving warm meals throughout the weekend at the winter emergency shelter at the The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center run by Project NOW, Inc. What we saw was neighbors caring for neighbors, hands passing plates, smiles exchanged, and gratitude felt in every corner of the room.
A heartfelt thank you to Danny and Donna and their friends, The Revolutionary People's Coalition, The rabbithole, Lisa Garcia, Brian, and every single person who stepped up to make sure our friends were fed. The meals were warm, the welcome was real, and the impact was immediate.
We are also deeply grateful to the anonymous donors who made it possible for some of our unhoused neighbors with pets to stay in hotels, keeping both them and their beloved companions safe from the freezing temperatures. That kind of compassion changes lives.
Our friends were grateful. Their bellies were full. And for a moment, the cold felt a little less heavy because love and community showed up strong.
But our work does not end here. Winter is long, and we must keep showing up, day after day, making sure our neighbors are cared for, supported, and not forgotten through every cold night ahead.
As you are thinking about your year end giving, please consider donating to The Third Place QC. Every dollar helps us fund our operations and keep our doors open for our neighbors who need a safe, welcoming place. You can donate online at www.thethirdplaceqc.org/donate or via Venmo at .
