BREAKING: President Obama DEMOLISHES Trump’s ego with a powerful masterclass in leadership, democracy, and American values at his Presidential Center opening!

Barack Obama used the grand opening of his Presidential Center in Chicago today to deliver a hopeful and pointed message about what truly holds America together, as former presidents and first ladies – the Bidens, the Clintons, and Bushes – gathered together in a striking show of unity.

Obama opened the proceedings graciously with warm gratitude to Joe Biden:

“Thank you for your steadfast partnership for eight years. Joe, we started as running mates and ended as family, and we would not be here without you,” the 44th President said. “And we are grateful.”

He pointed to some of the exhibits in the new library like Lincoln’s Bible, pamphlets from Ida B. Wells, suffragist buttons, and Frances Perkins’ hard hat, before reminding Americans of the foundational beliefs that make democracy possible:

“A belief in the intrinsic dignity and worth of all people and that no one is above the law or beneath its protection. A belief in … accountability that comes with an independent judiciary and a robust free press. A belief that our military and law enforcement owe allegiance not to any president or political party but to the people and our Constitution.

“A belief in the peaceful transfer of power after the people have spoken in fair and free elections … And a belief that qualities of character – honesty, integrity, kindness, compassion, a sense of duty and honor – those things matter in our public dealings just as they do in our private lives.”

“These are not Republican or Democratic values,” he said. “They’re American values we can all share regardless of party. Values every president here today … has tried our best to uphold ... It is our greatest inheritance.”

Turning to today’s climate of anger and cynicism, Obama veiled overview of Trumpism as a direct threat to the country's future.

“When we lose faith in each other, stop believing that voting matters – that citizenship matters, that our collective voices matter, that how we treat each other no longer matters – then we give away our power to decide our own futures.

“We open the door to the most ruthless, or the most careless, or the most fearful among us, who see some groups and some people as more equal than others, and see government as nothing more than a way to divvy up the spoils, and punish enemies, and keep those who are different in their place.

“I do not believe that is the story of America that prevails in the end ... To give up or give in now to cynicism and division would be a betrayal of our founding ideas, a betrayal of our faith."

“I remain convinced that the overwhelming majority of Americans feel the same way, that as unsettled as we are, people aren't looking for perpetual anger and division.

“They are looking for fairness and common sense and mutual respect, that deep in our gut, we want to find a way to turn towards each other again, not further away.”

He closed with a rousing call to action:

“The single most powerful word in our democracy is the word ‘We.’ ‘We The People.’ ‘We Shall Overcome.’ ‘Yes We Can.’ That word is owned by no one. It belongs to everyone. Oh, what a glorious task we are given to continually try to improve this great nation of ours.”

In a moment when reckless policy has produced a weak Iran ceasefire filled with major upfront concessions to Iran and little to show for it, Obama’s words stand as a powerful reminder of the leadership, character, and unity we should demand from our highest elected officials.

And we will.
