Yesterday we held our annual National EMS Week BBQ for our membership, and it may have been the best one yet! With the help of some incredible members, and a generous donation from Wegmans, we managed to feed almost 100 people including every on duty crew, day and night shift, plus many more off duty members and their families that stopped by. We served up smoked ribs and chicken, delicious sides and desserts, and we even had cold Genesee beer on hand, only for the off duty folks of course, courtesy of a generous donation from The Genesee Brewery. Workers at both Wegmans and Genesee Brewing Co. are members of Teamsters Local 118, so we thank them for making those products available to us. Lastly we would like to thank the Rochester Red Wings, Black Button Distilling, and Rohrbach Brewing Company for their generous donations which were raffled off to our members. Can't wait to do it again next year!

This week for National EMS Week some of our members along with our chapter leadership and SEIU Local 200United staff visited the New York State Senate and New York State Assembly in Albany to meet with elected representatives and discuss the challenges facing EMS in New York State. Senator Pam Helming, State Senator Shelley Mayer, Senator Samra Brouk, and Senator Jeremy Cooney were gracious enough to take the time to sit down with us and discuss how they can help ensure the future of EMS in New York State by creating a stronger system for both patients and providers. As a part of the Make EMS Essential campaign, our organization pledges to continue to fight for initiatives that will create a stronger and more equitable EMS system for all. Our members also had the opportunity to visit the New York State EMS Memorial and pay our respects to those EMS providers across the state that have made the ultimate sacrifice. May they rest in peace.

Happy National Nurses Week to all our incredible nursing colleagues! Nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system and we thank them for their hard work and dedication to caring for the sick and injured. We especially want to recognize our friends at Rochester Union of Nurses and Allied Professionals for their ongoing work to ensure safe working conditions for their members and better treatment for their patients through the power of collective action.

Collegiate EMS agencies and their membership provide a unique platform for dedicated, talented and driven members of the community to find their passion and step up as EMS leaders who may not otherwise have heard their call to serve.

Many Roc City EMS members have found their way into this uniquely rewarding field through National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation (NCEMSF) member agencies like RIT Ambulance , the University of Rochester MERT program and other local programs of the same vein.

A heartfelt congratulations to Peter for earning the Member of the Month award at RIT Ambulance. Roc City EMS is proud to see local agencies like RITA continue to inspire such passion for this career field in younger generations of providers.

Congratulations to our January member of the month, Peter Del Col! Peter is another one of our active Alumni members. He is a Driver Trainer and consistently takes shifts, while also being a big help in keeping our website up and running. Peter’s favorite thing about RITA is taking calls and training new members. Congrats Peter!

Moving into a promising 2023, our members, in conjunction with our partner organizations, continue to engage our communities in conversations about the very real, and ever present challenges facing EMS agencies throughout the region and across the State.

We're proud and excited to be working with other rank-and-file EMS leaders to explore lasting solutions for our field and the residents we serve.

2022 was another good year for our membership. We held our annual EMS Week BBQ, continued to fight for more equitable treatment in the workplace and safer working conditions, and engaged more widely in the Rochester labor community. At the end of 2022 we held our first annual Roc City EMS Holiday Banquet where we recognized some of our members with awards, had a great meal cooked by one of our own, raffles, dancing and much more. Here is to another year of solidarity.
