Today marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs Sept. 15-Oct. 15 as a time to recognize and celebrate Hispanic and Latin American history and culture. That includes Americans whose families originated in Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, or Central and South America.

During the Sept. 8 City Council meeting, Mayor Alison Page proclaimed Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month in River Falls and authorized the Hispanic Heritage flag to be flown at City Hall during that time.

HEADS UP: Beginning Thursday, Sept. 17, crews will be routing and sealing streets identified on the map. There will be no parking on W. Johnson Street and State Street on Thursday, Sept. 17 and Friday, Sept. 18. All work is expected to be completed by Monday, Sept. 21, weather permitting.

Rout and seal is a road maintenance process that fills in cracks in the pavement to keep water out, helping the roads last longer. Thank you for your patience as this work is being done.

Tomorrow is National Voter Registration Day, but we’re turning it into a multi-day event! If you are not yet registered to vote for the upcoming November election, there are several options this week for you to register in person. Stop by the UW-River Falls campus mall outside of the University Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, or come to City Hall (222 Lewis Street) on Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to get registered. Voters can also register online at www.myvote.wi.gov.

HEADS UP: Paulson Road from Prairie Drive to 500 feet south of Highland Drive is included in the City’s 2026 Mill and Overlay Program, as shown on the map below. The project will include grinding off the top layer of the existing pavement to the curb edges (milling), adjusting the height of metal castings for manholes, and paving a new layer of pavement (overlaying).

Construction is anticipated to both start and be completed the week of September 14th (weather permitting). This work may create temporary access interruptions but will generally not limit access to properties or driveways.

Are you heading to Art on the Kinni this weekend? So are the goats from ScapeGoat Farms in Spring Valley! These goats will be working hard eating nuisance vegetation, including buckthorn and Japanese knotweed. You can find them near the pedestrian bridge at Heritage Park.

Goat grazing is a sustainable, chemical-free way to slow the spread of nuisance vegetation in River Falls. The City launched its grazing program in 2022, and it typically takes about four treatments to really make an impact.

Today, on the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, we pause to reflect and remember the lives lost that day, and the courage of the first responders and others who stepped up to help in the aftermath.

During Tuesday's City Council meeting, Mayor Alison Page proclaimed today as a day of remembrance in the City of River Falls. Thank you to the Legion Honor Guard for joining the River Falls Fire Department during the proclamation.

New E-Bike & E-Scooter Guidelines for River Falls!
Thinking about cruising around town on an electric ride? The River Falls Police Department wants to make sure everyone stays safe and follows the rules of the road.
We’ve put together a handy E-Bike Safety Fact Sheet to help you understand the differences between Class 1, 2, and 3 e-bikes, electric dirt bikes, and e-scooters.
Key takeaways to remember:

* Know where to ride: Most e-bikes are welcome on bike lanes, paths, multi-use trails, and roads. Electric dirt bikes are restricted to private land with permission.
* Age requirements: Class 3 e-bikes require riders to be 16+. E-scooters have specific age and supervision rules for riders under 12.
* Safety first: Always wear a helmet, use a light at night, yield to pedestrians, and follow all traffic laws.
