⚠️ Generator Safety Reminder ⚠️

If you are running a portable generator at your home during an outage, you must turn OFF your main disconnect (main breaker) in your electric panel.

This is critical for two reasons:

It protects our linemen who may be working on the lines. Backfeeding power from a generator can seriously injure or kill someone.

It protects your home and your generator from damage when normal power is restored.

Never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet or panel unless you have a properly installed transfer switch.

When in doubt:
👉 Turn off your main breaker
👉 Use extension cords from the generator to appliances
👉 Keep the generator outside and away from windows/doors

Your safety — and our crews’ safety — depends on it.

🚧 Sewer Maintenance Notice – Front Street 🚧

Contractors will be sewer jetting the sewer main on Front Street from 2nd Street to 4th Street.

This work helps keep our sewer system flowing properly and prevents future backups. During this time, residents in the area may notice some noise or brief sewer-related odors.

Rising Sun Municipal Utilities is accepting applications for a full-time Journeyman Electric Lineman or Apprentice Lineman. This position involves construction, maintenance, and repair of the electric distribution system to ensure safe and dependable power for the community. Applicants should be prepared to work outdoors in all conditions, operate specialized equipment, and participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies.

Journeyman candidates must have completed an accredited apprenticeship program, hold a valid Class B CDL, and have at least three years of line work experience.

Apprentice candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to enroll in an approved apprenticeship program; a Class B CDL is preferred or must be obtained within six months.

All applicants must live within 30 minutes of Rising Sun, pass a background check, and pass a drug test. Rising Sun Municipal Utilities offers competitive wages, health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement benefits, paid time off, and ongoing training.
