We enjoy freedom that no other nation enjoys or has enjoyed. Historians have said that our type of government, which provides for our freedom, cannot survive.

Yet, so far, it has for 250 years. But, with this freedom comes responsibility and sacrifice that we memorialize today.

We usually think of those who gave their lives on Memorial Day-but it is more than those who died. In my way of thinking, it should include the incredible number of soldiers who suffered incapacitating wounds, both physical and mental.

🚨 Budget Concerns in the Borough 🚨

During Tuesday’s Borough Council meeting, it became public that in just the first quarter of the year, the borough is already well over budget, with multiple line items exceeding expected spending.

* 📈 Engineering costs are projected to exceed the budget by ~$40,000 by year’s end
* ⚖️ The new solicitor has already been paid $47,000 in just three months. Blowing through the amount budgeted for his services in just the first quarter.

When these issues were raised, there were no clear answers—only a proposal to limit who can contact the solicitor moving forward. In fact the Councilor in charge of finance barely looked up from her notes to answer fellow councilors and residents questions about the budget.

These overruns follow the council’s decision to replace existing engineering and legal professionals—a move that has resulted in higher costs with little to show for it so far.

💰 This raises serious concerns about:
* Fiscal oversight
* Spending discipline
* Leadership’s ability to manage taxpayer dollars responsibly

If this trend continues, residents may ultimately bear the burden through higher taxes. Despite the efforts of the previous Council to lower property taxes last fall.

🗣️ Transparency and accountability matter. It’s time for answers on how they will limit their over spending for the remainder of the year.

Prom season is here, and our lake—one of the most photographed spots in town—does not have a functioning fountain. For years, this was handled on time, every time. The previous engineer, Charles Catania made sure it was installed and ready for moments that matter to our community.

Now? We’re paying more for a new engineer… and getting less.

Our students should have that classic Ridley Park backdrop for their prom pictures. Our residents deserve consistency and accountability.

Let’s get back to doing the basics right—on time, and with pride.
