The first time I came to Anaconda, I was the editor and sports writer for The Leader. I still remember the rumble of the old printing press, the smell of ink, and the excitement of telling the stories that mattered to this community.

Somewhere between Friday night football games, city council meetings, and late nights putting the paper to bed, I fell in love with Anaconda.

That’s why hearing that The Leader has closed its doors hits close to my heart. A newspaper is more than a business—it’s a community’s memory book. It’s where generations found their names in print, celebrated milestones, and stayed connected.

While the presses may be silent now, I’m grateful for the role The Leader played in helping me discover a town that would forever hold a special place in my heart, and a town I now call home (again).
