May is Maternal Mental Health Month. Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) are a major concern, impacting new and expecting parents. Some of these postpartum disorders include depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, and psychosis. You're not alone.

Postpartum Support International estimates:

- 1 in 5 women experience a PMAD
- 7 in 10 women hide or downplay their symptoms
- 1 in 10 fathers develop depression in the postpartum period
- 20-25% of pregnancies end in miscarriage or stillbirth

Sitting here with my morning coffee, staring at this piece of paper, and crying some very happy tears. ☕😭✨

This little letter from the IRS makes it official: After the Birthquake, Inc. is officially a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization!

When this journey started, it was born out of a deeply personal passion to be there for others who’ve experienced something similar as myself. I never could have imagined how quickly a simple monthly gathering would grow into a permanent, federally recognized sanctuary for families navigating the aftermath of birth trauma.

Every late night, every shared tear, and every hard conversation led to this exact piece of paper.

What this means for our community:
🌱 Your donations are now tax-deductible.
🌱 We can now apply for major grants to fund our programs.
🌱 We can expand our services and support groups.

To every single person who has attended a gathering, donated, volunteered their time, shared our posts, or cheered us on from afar.. you built this. Thank you for walking this path with us. We are officially here for the long haul! 🤍

What a beautiful evening! 🤎 Tonight, our After the Birthquake community gathered for a wonderful peer support night in Rhinelander. We shared deep, meaningful conversations, painted flower pots together, and enjoyed cake to celebrate an amazing milestone.

Can you believe it has been one year since After the Birthquake started as just a simple idea for a monthly peer support gathering? 🎂

Looking around tonight, we are so overwhelmed with gratitude. What started as one small group has blossomed into a registered nonprofit, allowing us to offer more support groups, resources, and safe spaces for women in our community.

Thank you to everyone who has shown up, shared their stories, and helped this vision grow. We couldn't have done it without this incredible community. Here’s to healing, connection, and growing together! 🌿🌻

We had a wonderful time at our Mays community corners gathering! 💕

Beautiful weather, coffee, and connecting with others who “get it”

We are looking to add one more community corners gathering a month in the rhinelander area, as well as working towards adding one in the Wausau area.

We would love to hear ideas and recommendations on places, days, times for both the Wausau and Rhinelander areas!

📣Our bake sale planned for this Saturday has been cancelled!📣

Other priorities came up so we had to make the tough decision to cancel, thank you for understanding.

🐮☕️We will still be at Highland Cottage Cafe tomorrow from 10-12! Reminder these community corners gatherings are a more casual gathering & kiddos are welcome to come along with you. At this time everyone is responsible for their own purchases.

🎂🎨 Monday May 18 6-8pm we will still have our peer support gathering at our office! This is free to attend (donations welcome) but due to a deeper discussion only infants can attend with you. This month’s is extra special as we will be celebrating our 1 year anniversary of the peer support group starting!

We have some exciting news to share! 🌸

📣After the Birthquake, Inc. is officially a member of the MoMMA’s Voices Coalition.

What does this mean?

MoMMA's Voices is a national network that brings together families and healthcare providers to improve maternal health. They are the experts in Lived Experience Integration® which means they help organizations like ours take the real, raw stories of birth trauma and loss and turn them into powerful advocacy and better care.

We joined this coalition because we are deeply passionate about advocating for and providing education around perinatal and maternal care. Partnering with MoMMAs Voices ensures that we are doing this work safely and effectively, grounded in the highest national standards.

By being part of this movement, we are strengthening the support we offer through our online community and our groups in Rhinelander, Sugar Camp, and soon Wausau. While these are our physical locations, families from all neighboring towns are always welcome to attend. 🤝✨

On Saturday, After the Birthquake had a booth at the Connect Community Baby Shower.

We’re really grateful to have been invited into this space and to share what we offer with people who may need support, or know someone who does. It was a great afternoon connecting with families, meeting both new and familiar faces, and building relationships with other organizations in the community.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, talked with us, and showed support. It truly means a lot!😊
