All cities in Oregon are required to pass a balanced budget no later than June 30 of each year. I’m proud to announce that the City of Reedsport Budget Committee has approved a balanced budget for next year, and it will be on the agenda for the City Council on June 15. I just want to take a moment to thank the City Council, City Budget Committee volunteers, the City staff, and Michelle Fraley, the City Finance Director and Budget Officer for all of their hard work to make this happen. All cities in Oregon are struggling as expenses increase faster than revenues, but I am proud to say that we are taking the right steps to keep the City of Reedsport on stable financial footing.
In Oregon, cities are also required to be audited by a qualified, external auditor annually. Our audits make it clear that Reedsport is on the right path: we received clean unmodified opinions, which is the gold standard for municipal audits. The audits can be found on the Oregon Secretary of State’s website, which is here: Oregon Secretary of State Audits Division: Audit Report Search.
Again, I have deep appreciation for all of the people that make Reedsport a great place to live, work, and play. Thank you to all the volunteers who give so freely of their time and talents for this city.
Respectfully submitted, Deanna Schafer, City Manager.
