🚨Incident South Of Eddies Corner Update🚨
In the early morning hours of April 5th, Central Montana Dispatch took a 911 call from a Semi driver traveling on 191 South. The semi driver stated he was being shot at by a vehicle behind him. Fergus County Sheriffs Office, Wheatland County Sheriff’s Office, and Judith Basin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area.
While enroute, it was reported that the semi was now fully engulfed in flames and the occupants of the Semi were running into the field for cover. Moore Fire and Hobson Fire were dispatched to the scene.
A short time later, deputies located a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle that was allegedly firing shots at the Semi. The driver was ordered out at gun point by deputies and detained with no issues. Currently, agencies are investigating the incident.
-There is no ongoing threat to the public-
We want to thank everyone that responded, and a big shout out Central Montana Dispatch for making sure everyone was updated during an event like this!
Traffic will be down to one lane while the road is being cleared. Thank you!

Community Reminder: Call 911 First

Even in a small, close-knit community like Belt, 911 should always be your first call for any fire or medical emergency.

Calling a responder directly can delay help. When you call 911, dispatch can immediately alert crews, send the right resources, and coordinate the response.

Calling 911 doesn’t always mean lights and sirens—it means the right response.

Even if it seems minor, calling 911 ensures the fastest, most coordinated help possible.

Thank you for supporting your local volunteers.

Update: Highway 87 has reopened. Travel still not advised.

MDT has closed Highway 87 from Armington Junction to Stanford. All afternoon the Judith Basin County Sheriff's Department, MHP and numerous tow trucks have been trying to clear slide offs from the roadway and side of the road. Many of the responders have been stuck multiple times themselves.
Most of the other roads in the area are marked as Severe Conditions and some local county roads may be impassable. So follow our guidance, stay home so that the responders that have been out there for hours don't have to try to rescue you as well. If you don't have to drive, don't.

511mt.net for updated state road conditions.

MDT has issued a "Chains Required" notice for all towing units traveling over the Lewistown Divide on US Highway 87 east of Lewistown until further notice.
