May the 4th, be with you..

During my time in law enforcement, I personally have had many close calls during traffic stops with vehicles passing dangerously close at brisk speeds.

Situations like that are one of the reasons why Move Over laws were created—to protect law enforcement, first responders, and roadside workers.

Unfortunately, this is also one of those laws that is often forgotten or overlooked.

This post from the South Dakota Highway Patrol is a good reminder for all of us:

Slow down. Move over when safe. Help keep everyone safe.

Downtown Rapid City — Annual Cruiser Car Show
We’re out enjoying classic cars at this year’s Cruiser Car Show. Pictured is Mikaela Stephens, who stopped by to gather signatures for her Thin Blue Line flag.

Mikaela also shared that she’s a listener of Citizens Arrest — thanks for the support, Mikaela!

Recently finished up recording another episode of Citizen's Arrest — a podcast that gives a behind the scenes look at law enforcement and community in Rapid City. This week we had a special guest, Captain Christian Sigel from the Criminal Investigations Division, who shared some great insight into the work his team is doing.

Check it out sometime on your favorite streaming service.

We’re already halfway through the 85th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally! I hope all of our visitors and those attending are enjoying the beauty of the Black Hills and everything our community has to offer.

Even though we’re at the midway point, safety should still be a top priority. Please continue to drive carefully, watch out for the increased traffic, and take a little extra time to get where you’re going.

Check out this throwback photo from around the 2005 time frame. I think I might need a little help convincing Chief Hedrick that it’s time to bring steel horses back into the fleet!
