📢 : Renew NC is now offering a FREE online prescreening opportunity to help eligible applicants prepare for the upcoming Multi-Family Construction and Repair (MCR) Program for non-LIHTC projects. ⤵️

The MCR Program — Renew NC's fourth disaster recovery program — will support the rehabilitation, development, and construction of multi-family rental properties with five or more units in Hurricane Helene-impacted areas of western North Carolina.

Eligible applicants include for-profit and nonprofit developers, public housing authorities, local governments, and joint ventures between these entities.

A prescreen can help determine whether your proposed Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) project:

✅ Demonstrates a tie-back to Hurricane Helene

Potential applicants can participate in prescreening to help prepare for the program's upcoming official launch. This early step allows applicants to review eligibility requirements, identify any missing documentation, and position their projects for a smoother application process.

To sign up:

- Click 'sign up now' to create an account.
- Follow the prompts to provide the necessary information.
- Once the prescreen is complete, a DCR staff member will follow up to discussion the submission.

Through the Renew NC Single-Family Housing Program, this new two-bedroom, two-bathroom home will help provide a safe, secure, and stable place for a family impacted by Hurricane Helene. This home is being built by general contractor Shepherd Response.

Renew NC is North Carolina’s long-term disaster recovery effort, administered by the North Carolina Department of Commerce Division of Community Revitalization and funded through a HUD Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) grant.

🏡🔑 Welcome Home! This morning, a Black Mountain homeowner was joined by his son as he received the keys to his new home through Renew NC. 🏠💙

This two-bedroom, two-bathroom home was built by general contractor Shepherd Response and made possible through the Renew NC Single-Family Housing Program. Renew NC is North Carolina's long-term disaster recovery initiative, committed to supporting post-Helene housing recovery across western North Carolina.

Hurricane Helene significantly damaged the homeowner's childhood home, and we're grateful to help him and his family make a fresh start in this safe, secure home. Learn more about Renew NC at renewnc.org.

📣 NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS: The Renew NC Commercial District Revitalization (CDR) Program is helping western North Carolina communities recover and rebuild after Hurricane Helene.

Eligible local governments and nonprofit organizations can now apply for the first round of funding — $40 million in federal disaster recovery assistance — to support revitalization projects in commercial districts across impacted areas.

“The Commercial District Revitalization program is a critical investment in western North Carolina’s economic recovery,” said Governor Josh Stein. “By supporting business districts, we’re supporting local businesses, stabilizing jobs, and strengthening communities in western North Carolina.”

The program will fund projects in eligible HUD- and State-designated Most Impacted and Distressed (MID) areas across western NC, including Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, McDowell, Rutherford, Watauga, Yancey, and many more counties.

Potential applicants are encouraged — though not required — to complete the free online prescreening before applying.

Construction on a new home is moving right along for a western NC homeowner in Clyde! 🏠👷‍♂️

This Renew NC two-bedroom, two-bathroom home, being built by general contractor Dynamic Group, is taking shape as we work toward getting this homeowner back into a safe, secure, and more storm-resilient home.

Late last week, crews completed drywall work and platforms for the outdoor stairs. Next steps include painting and flooring, with trim work and cabinet installation coming over the next couple of weeks.

We’re eyeing mid-June for completion and are excited to see this homeowner return home soon.

This project is made possible through the State’s Renew NC Single-Family Housing Program, helping North Carolinians recover, rebuild, and move forward after Hurricane Helene. Follow us here for more updates!

¡La construcción de una nueva vivienda avanza a buen ritmo para un propietario en Clyde, en el oeste de Carolina del Norte! 🏠👷‍♂️

Esta casa del programa Renew NC —que cuenta con dos dormitorios y dos baños, y está siendo construida por el contratista general Dynamic Group— va tomando forma a medida que trabajamos para que este propietario pueda regresar a un hogar seguro, protegido y más resistente ante las tormentas.

A finales de la semana pasada, los equipos completaron la instalación de los paneles de yeso (drywall) y las plataformas para las escaleras exteriores. Los siguientes pasos incluyen la pintura y la colocación de los pisos; los trabajos de molduras y la instalación de los gabinetes se llevarán a cabo en las próximas semanas.

Tenemos prevista la finalización del proyecto para mediados de junio y nos entusiasma ver que este propietario pronto podrá regresar a su hogar.
