BREAKING NEWS: The Jackson County Board of Elections convened today to deliberate on the allocation of early voting locations for the upcoming 2026 elections. During the meeting, two board members, including the chair, disclosed that they had received threats and pressure from Raleigh, specifically from the auditor’s office, if Republicans did not support the removal of Western Carolina University’s early voting site.

The vote on the site’s location was as follows:
- Chair Bill Thompson (R) voted against the site going on campus.
- Jay Pavey (R) voted in favor.
- Betsy Swift (D) voted in favor.
- Roy Osborne (D) voted in favor.

It’s worth noting that Member Wes Hanemayer (R) resigned from the board last week, prior to the meeting.
