Did you know that we have begun engaging the community in a long range facilities planning process?

The Rainier School District recently convened a Long Range Facilities Planning Committee, bringing together community members who applied to help learn about the district’s facilities and provide input on future needs.

At the committee’s first meeting, members learned that the district’s main buildings were constructed in 1978. While the facilities were built to last and continue to serve students well, many building systems are now approaching or beyond their expected lifespan nearly 50 years later. Recent facility assessments highlighted areas that will require attention to ensure the schools continue serving students and the community for decades to come.

Committee members also toured the commons, auditorium, and pool facility, which was closed several years ago. The tour reinforced what many already know: Rainier’s campus is an impressive community asset with strong bones, beautiful grounds, and spaces that have served generations. The committee is beginning to explore what investments may be needed to maintain, protect, and preserve these facilities for future generations.

The committee will meet several times in the spring and fall prior to making a long range facilities plan recommendation to the superintendent.

Stay tuned as the committee continues its work and learns more about the opportunities and challenges facing Rainier’s schools.

Dear Rainier Community,

As we look ahead, we want to ensure that Rainier School District facilities meet the needs of our students, staff, families, and the community. To that end, we are forming a Long Range Facilities Committee and are seeking community members and district staff to participate. This group will review our current facilities needs and explore options for addressing them, including the possibility of a future capital construction bond.

The committee will meet a few times between May and October 2026 to:

Review the district’s facilities assessment

Consider possible funding options

Discuss priorities and long-term planning

Reflect community input

Develop a recommendation to share with the Superintendent and School Board

This is an advisory group, and its work will help inform future decisions. No final decisions have been made.

We are seeking a diverse group of community members who are interested in learning more and contributing to this important conversation. If you would like to be considered, please complete an application online here by May 18 at 5:00 PM.

We are dedicated to learning from previous facilities planning and bond efforts. We value transparency and prioritize community voice. Thank you for your consideration and for your support of Rainier schools.

Sincerely,
Chad Holloway

We encourage students to bring a water bottle to have with lunch. If milk is unavailable, we will provide water and cups for all students. Thank you for your understanding and support! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Debby Webster via email at [email protected]. ...
