🚔 Day 1 of the 2026 Rahway Police Youth Academy is underway! 👮‍♀️👮‍♂️

Today, we proudly welcomed 30 cadets entering 6th through 8th grade as they began an exciting week of learning, leadership, teamwork, and public service.

Throughout the academy, our cadets will experience hands-on training and demonstrations from local, county, state, and federal public safety professionals, including:

Our mission is to provide every cadet with a fun, educational, and memorable experience while building confidence, leadership skills, and positive relationships between our youth and the law enforcement professionals who proudly serve the Rahway community.

🚓 Outstanding Police Work | Rahway Police Department

On July 7, 2026, Rahway Police officers responded to a report of a missing 6-year-old child with autism who had wandered from her home and was last seen heading toward a wooded area behind Billy Court.

Without hesitation, PO I. Cortes and PO Glikin immediately began searching the area. Their swift actions led them to the child, who was located sitting in a small creek within the woods. PO Glikin entered the water and safely brought the child to safety. Thankfully, the child was unharmed and was quickly reunited with her mother.

This incident highlights the importance of a rapid response, teamwork, and unwavering dedication to protecting our community's most vulnerable residents. The professionalism, urgency, and compassion demonstrated by PO I. Cortes and PO Glikin prevented what could have become a far more serious situation.

Rahway Police Department Awarded Gary Sinise Foundation First Responder Outreach Grant
The Rahway Police Department is proud to announce that we were selected as a recipient of a Gary Sinise Foundation First Responder Outreach Grant to support the purchase of a Warrior Aid and Litter Kit from North American Rescue.
This lifesaving trauma-response equipment will strengthen our officers’ ability to provide immediate emergency care during critical incidents, helping protect our officers, first responders, and the community we serve. The grant funded the purchase of the kit.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Gary Sinise Foundation for its continued commitment to honoring and supporting our nation’s defenders, veterans, first responders, and their families.

RAHWAY POLICE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES ARREST OF TWO JUVENILES IN COMMERCIAL BURGLARY INVESTIGATION

RAHWAY, NJ – The Rahway Police Department announces the arrest of two juveniles in connection with a series of recent commercial burglaries that occurred within the City of Rahway.

The arrests are the result of a coordinated effort by patrol officers, supervisors, detectives, and investigative personnel who worked diligently to identify and apprehend those responsible for targeting local businesses.

Police Director Frank D’Errico and Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO) Chief Ganley commended the efforts of all personnel involved in the investigation, recognizing the teamwork, professionalism, and dedication displayed throughout the case.

Following the initial response to the incidents, members of the Rahway Police Department Detective Bureau conducted an extensive follow-up investigation that quickly led to the identification and arrest of the suspects. Through investigative efforts, evidence collection, and information developed during the course of the investigation, detectives were able to successfully bring the case to a swift resolution.

The City of Rahway Police Department and the Rahway Health Department proudly hosted the Third Annual Drug Prevention Event on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Hamilton Stage at Union County Performing Arts Center. The event was collaboratively organized by the Rahway Health Department and Rahway Police Department, led by Rahway Health Department representative Marvin Yanez alongside Rahway Police Department LEAD instructors Officer Akeru, Detective Sidra Colvin, and Officer Rosa. Together, they presented an engaging and educational program focused on drug prevention and healthy decision making for approximately 300 sixth grade students from Rahway’s elementary schools.

Students were transported to Hamilton Stage, where the event began with opening remarks from Mayor Giacobbe. Director Frank D'Errico, CLEO Ganley, members of the Detective Bureau, and the Training Unit also attended to greet and encourage the students. The program featured two interactive 45 minute activity blocks, including presentations by a team of doctors from RWJ discussing the harmful effects of drug abuse and va**ng. Students also participated in the LEAD curriculum presentation and hands on activities using simulation “drunk goggles” to demonstrate the dangers of impaired decision making. A large inflatable lung and brain exhibit provided a powerful visual learning experience, while students also enjoyed a photo booth and pizza lunch.

This annual event continues to receive positive feedback from students, staff, and the community, reinforcing the City’s commitment to youth education, prevention, and community engagement.

🚨 PUBLIC ADVISORY 🚨

The Rahway Police Department has received numerous calls regarding a large bird observed throughout the city.

The bird has been identified as a Sandhill Crane. Responding officers evaluated the animal and determined it did not appear injured or ill.

New Jersey Fish and Wildlife was notified and documented the sighting. The Raptor Trust was also contacted, and Animal Control Solutions of Flemington responded to assess the bird. When officers and animal control personnel attempted to approach, the crane flew away without issue. Based on this, it was determined the bird is healthy and cannot be safely captured.

Sandhill Cranes are found across North America depending on the season. While sightings in Rahway are uncommon, they are becoming increasingly more frequent throughout New Jersey.

• Do not feed the bird
• Do not approach or attempt to interact
• Maintain a safe distance

The Rahway Police Department is aware the crane remains in the area and will continue to monitor for any potential hazards.

A normal spring day quickly turned into a devastating tragedy for a Rahway police officer, his nurse wife, and their 10-month-old daughter, when a fire consumed their home within minutes.

Rahway PBA Local 31 has stepped up to support this young family during their time of need.

A Rahway police officer, his wife, and their infant child recently suffered a catastrophic house fire that destroyed their home, leaving them displaced with nothing. This family has always been there for others—through their professions and as dedicated members of the community. Now, they need our help.

The fire claimed not only their home, but also all of their personal belongings, including essential items for their young child. They are now facing the urgent need for temporary housing and the resources to begin rebuilding their lives from the ground up. The emotional and financial impact of this loss is overwhelming, especially while caring for a baby—but together, we can help lighten that burden and show them the strength of their community.
