***BREAKING NEWS UPDATE***
QUITMAN, MS: QPD Chief, Chris Read tells CCHT that Chauncy Riley, 18 of Stonewall has been taken into custody this evening following a domestic situation that occurred at the Quitman Sports Complex resulting in shots fired while traveling down the road.

Read says, "Riley assaulted a juvenile at the complex by slapping the child in the face, while in the presence of a 23 year old adult female. During the altercation a firearm was brandished where Riley then got into a white, single-cab pickup and fled the scene heading north on North Jackson Ave.

Leaving the complex; aggressively the domestic situation flowed out onto city streets; Following closely behind Riley was the 23 year old female. While driving near the 600 Block of North Jackson, Riley pulls out a rifle and fired 5 shots, at the female, striking the female's vehicle".

Read says one of the bullets entered through the hood of the car and exited the glove compartment on the passenger side. Thank God the juvenile was left at the complex with others during the dispute or this could have ended very badly.

Read says as of right now Riley faces charges of Felony Domestic Violence, Felony Shooting into an occupied vehicle and Felony drive-by shooting. Riley also had other active warrants out of the Town of Stonewall and will face those charges as well.

Chief Read credits this quick arrest to Assistant Chief, Edwin Laws, CCSO Deputy Jason Bridgmon and QPD Officer Ben Langston.

Through quick investigative actions and community involvement surrounding this case, the suspect was apprehended safely, without incident within 30 mins of the original reported crime.

Chief Read says this case is still under investigation and more charges could be pending or applied later after witness interviews are complete.

Our last day of 12 days of Christmas Appreciation is a special one, because it’s about the future of Quitman. Today we’re proud to spotlight Tyler Parker. We see this young man growing into a strong, successful leader in our community.

Tyler loves sports, shows discipline beyond his years, and carries himself with respect and determination. Those qualities tell us one thing, this young man is headed places.

To his parents and guardians, we thank you for raising him right. Your hard work shows in his manners, his attitude, and the way he treats others. It truly takes a village, and you’re doing an outstanding job.

We believe it starts with the youth. When all of us such as the families, our schools, our community members, and law enforcement work together to lift our young people up, we build a stronger, safer future. Building positive police relationships with our youth today helps create trust, respect, and leadership for tomorrow.

As we wrap up our 12 Days of Christmas Appreciation, we want to thank everyone who followed along and every individual who was recognized. Each of you makes Quitman and all of Clarke County a better place.

From all of us, we wish the City of Quitman a very Merry Christmas and a joyful, blessed holiday season.
Here’s to our youth, our community, and a bright future ahead! 🎅

For our eleventh day of Christmas appreciation, we want to shine a light on two men who truly keep Quitman building strong. John Wayne Haney and Dewayne Robinson of Quitman Building Supply, with a special thank you to Ashley Beckman as well!

John and Dewayne are the kind of folks who don’t just do their jobs… they go above and beyond every single day. Whether it’s lending a hand, finding what’s needed, or showing up when it really matters, they do it without hesitation and without expecting recognition. That kind of dedication does not go unnoticed by this community.

The people of Quitman, along with the Quitman Police Department, want to say thank you for always being there, for supporting others, and for quietly making a big difference. You may not always get the spotlight, but your impact is felt far and wide.

And a shoutout to Ashley Beckman. Thank you for all you do and for being part of the team that makes Quitman Building Supply such a great place for our community.

We appreciate each of you more than words can say. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a season filled with the same kindness you give to others! 🎅

Huge THANK YOU to Monica Fuller for her kind generosity in treating your Police Department to some delicious donuts with a fun “Peanuts Christmas” theme! Nothing says holiday cheer like Snoopy, Christmas spirit, and a box full of donuts.

Everyone was all smiles. And let’s be honest, cops and donuts go together like badges and radios! 😂
We can assure you these were appreciation donuts… not evidence 🤣

No photos of cops are available because the cameras were mysteriously put away once the donut boxes were opened. 🫣

Monica, thank you for thinking of us and bringing laughter and sweetness to our day. Acts of kindness like yours mean more than you know.

From all of us at the Police department and City Hall… Merry Christmas!! ❤️🎅🍩
