Happy Flag Day!

Show us your flags!

On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed the Flag Act of 1777, which entailed the design of the flag for the newly formed United States of America.
It wasn't until 1916 that President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that June 14 would be known as National Flag Day. In 1949 was officially established as a holiday.

June 6, 1944, , over 160,000 Allied troops landed on the heavily fortified
N**i occupied beach, of Normandy, France, as part of Operation Overlord.

Over 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft aided the troops on the shore in
securing the beach, and ensuring the Allied invasion as a victory. However
the victory came at a hefty cost, more than 9,000 Allied soldiers gave their
lives during the invasion. It was because of their sacrifices, that the
Allies were able to secure a foothold in Europe, and eventually win the war.

Did you know U.S. Marines Col. James Kerr, Col. Richard “Hall” Jeschke, Col. Robert Bare, Capt. Herbert Merillat & Lt. Weldon James are only a handful of Marines known to have participated in D-Day?

If you have not visited the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia, add it to your bucket list - you will not be disappointed.
