🐢🌎 HAPPY WORLD TURTLE DAY FROM OCTAGON WILDLIFE SANCTUARY 🌎🐢

Today we’re celebrating some of our amazing African Spur Tortoises who call OWS home! ❤️

🐢 **Tank** – 10 years old
Tank came to Octagon in June 2025 after his previous family could no longer care for him.

🐢 **Amy** – 20+ years old
Amy came from Sanibel Island after concerns were raised about improper living conditions and nutrition. Despite the name, “Amy” is actually a male tortoise! Poor nutrition early in life affected his growth and shell development.

🐢 **Thor** – Approximately 30 years old
Thor came to us after his owner passed away. He requires special monitoring and diet adjustments due to digestive issues.

🐢 **Bobbi** – 20+ years old
Bobbi came from Indiana after outgrowing his enclosure. He was especially attached to the owner’s granddaughter and still responds when his name is called. When he first arrived at OWS, he would walk toward visitors with small children because they reminded him of her. 🥹

🥬🍉 All of our tortoises enjoy a healthy diet of lettuce, fruits, and vegetables — with corn on the cob being a favorite treat!

🛁 One thing they all LOVE? Spa days!
Their spa days include shell scrubs with brushes and cooling hose-downs.

❄️ During colder months, tortoise care becomes especially important. If temperatures drop below 60°, they cannot safely digest food, so feeding must be paused. We keep them warm with houses, blankets, and heat lamps while their metabolism naturally slows down.

African Spur Tortoises can live up to 150 years!

We are honored to give these incredible animals the love and lifelong care they deserve. 🖤
