🗳️PRIMARY BALLOTS DUE ON TUESDAY🗳️
While serving in public office, my goal was clear: delivering results for the community that elected me to do so. I would work with experts and colleagues from across our great state to get the work done for the people I represented.
I spent years in both the Colorado State House and the Pueblo County Board of Commissioners, working on some of the most challenging issues that families in our community face. The solutions we crafted together were made possible only by people who decided it was time to stop talking and start doing.
Having the ability to build a broad political coalition, to advance the interests of the community you serve, is a distinct role of successfully serving in public office, especially in our state’s executive branch. We need a governor who has consistently shown the ability to deliver for our community. This meaningful, tangible experience is the leadership standard that makes my choice for who I’m supporting in this race clear: Michael Bennet.
I did not come to this decision lightly. I understand that right now in Pueblo, and in communities like it across Southern Colorado, families are struggling more than ever before. Housing costs continue to climb, health care premiums are swallowing more of everyone’s paycheck, and utility and grocery bills are not decreasing anytime soon. These are real challenges that require real policy solutions. Coloradans need and deserve a Governor who will spend four years working on these challenges, not one who will spend four years studying them. A Governor who’s ready to govern on day one.
Michael has the plans - and the record - to do exactly that. His proposal for a real public health option would give Pueblo families real competition in a market that has failed to deliver the public health outcomes that I spent years in the legislature fighting for. His cap-and-invest proposal would hold polluters accountable, while generating investment opportunities that would create new economic opportunities in communities just like ours.
His housing plans to make building easier and less expensive, present a real opportunity to address the cost-of-living crisis that far too many of us are currently grappling with in Southern Colorado.
Even more important is the fact that none of this is happening in isolation. Donald Trump and national Republicans are actively working to make life more difficult for working families in Pueblo. We’re seeing this in their continued efforts to cut Medicare and Medicaid, and many other programs that Puebloans rely on.
Michael has spent his career doing the exact opposite. He’s fought to pass programs like the Childcare Tax Credit and other strong measures that put real money back in working people’s pockets. This is more than a talking point; it is an established record of work.
The stakes of making the correct choice could not be higher. Our community has felt the effects of being overlooked and being treated as an afterthought in many important policy conversations for decades. What we need is a Governor who knows us, understands us, and believes that a thriving Pueblo is critical to the success of the entire state - not just during a campaign, but when the work actually begins.
Above all else, Michael makes himself available to those he represents. During my time in elected office, I knew that if Pueblo needed federal help, I could give him a call, and he would do whatever he could to help, without question. This is exactly the Governor I believe he will be. One that leads, listens, and delivers results for all of us.
