The Governor Bradford triumphantly returns to Provincetown as a rooted, community-driven staple!

Still preserving the spirit, character, and history of the Bradford, with local ownership, and a local team deeply connected to Provincetown and Cape Cod. A renewed focus on hospitality, entertainment, comfort food, and bringing people together again under one roof.

The building at the corner of Standish and Commercial has graced this enviable location since the early 1930s, back when the railroad still rumbled along Standish Street every day, with Previous iterations here including the Sweet Shoppe, First National Market, Seafood Restaurant & Grill, and Silva’s Sandwich Shop.

Renamed the Governor Bradford in 1960 and host to Drag Karaoke with Dana Danzel!🎙️🤩

On Behalf of Provincetown Chamber of Commerce, we are proud to welcome the Governor Bradford’s return as a an Iconic and integral part of our local community. 🔔

The end of an era—and birth of another.

Located at 230 Commercial Street (just opposite Marine Specialties), the magnificently eccentric Lancy Mansion was built in 1874 for Benjamin Lancy, a merchant and ship owner.

The structure being demolished today—which was rarely described as either ‘beautiful’ or even ‘complementary’ to the Second Empire architecture it obscured—was built in the 1970’s, when preservation regulations were somewhat less strict.

While most locals applaud the return of this historic façade—which has remained hidden, sometimes called ‘Frankenhouse,’ for the past four decades—others lament the loss of jobs and community. Only time will tell what the future holds.

A restaurant, bar-cafe and a permanent home for Provincetown Bookshop will occupy the restored Lancy Mansion in the Spring of 2027. 🔔

While we’re celebrating 250 years of the state’s legendary history, Provincetown has been serving main character energy since 1620! 💅✨

The Mayflower didn’t just drop anchor here, it dropped the first beat in a long history of rebels, pioneers, and icons. Before the tea was tossed in Boston, we were already the original destination for those looking to live life on their own terms.

From that very first landing to becoming the world’s premier q***r seaside sanctuary, Ptown is where freedom actually found its footing. We didn’t just start the history books... We gave them a makeover! 🏳️‍🌈🎨

Come celebrate the big MA250 where the story actually began. Plan your next getaway to experience the heritage, the salt air, and the vibrant pride of our iconic shores.
