Self-determination: Freedom of a people to determine the way in which they shall be governed and whether or not they shall be self-governed.

We believe in the power of our communities' stories, lived experiences, and ancestral knowledge and wisdom to create solutions and inform decision-making. Traditional academic research often affirms what our communities know, feel, and experience every day, providing complimentary evidence bases.

Our work at REJC lives at the intersection of these realities and our mission is simple, to make sure community priorities get translated into real, tangible policy solutions.

This work includes all of us and all issues, or it serves none of us. That's intersectionality - and that's the path to Buen Vivir (all of us living well, without living at the expense of others or the planet).

Democracy has never been guaranteed and was not given freely, or without a fight but we must be committed to the struggle.

Fannie showed us one way to go and we step and/or fall forward.

People who feed and keep community's nourished are often the most overlooked.

has been keeping REJC and our participants well fed over these last couple of years and we want to make sure that she is also sustained as she transitions from running her business full-time.

Please consider donating at the gofundme link to support Bean directly.

We are also having a community dinner at the end of the month because we want to share some of that nourishment with our people, as well.

Meet Brianna Craft, one of our fundraiser's amazing three climate justice authors. The must-see event is only a couple of days away, and tickets are selling fast!

Brianna Craft, author of Everything That Rises and We Don’t Have Time For This, esearches climate change. She started in the UN climate negotiations in 2011. Four years later, she witnessed the adoption of the Paris Agreement first hand. Brianna works to further equity in the negotiations for the world’s poorest countries, which have done the least to cause the climate crisis but are the most vulnerable to its impacts. From a small town in Washington State, Brianna lives in London. When she’s not writing justice-focused climate stories, Brianna works as a Senior Research Associate at ODI Global. She holds a master’s degree in environmental studies from Brown University and is an alumna of the University of Washington. Brianna loves peanut butter.

When you hear environmental justice, what comes to mind? Our Green Justice Zones trainees, who continue their work with us tonight, had multiple answers - such as smog, racism, gentrification, displaced communities, not enough green space, and universal rights to our natural resources.

The community engagement continued with a history lesson into how environmental INjustice and racism are here because of many years of strategy and planning. In dismantling white supremacy and dominant power structures, we recognize that the system in place was not created in a single effort so our work won’t be completed with quick and simple solutions.

WE ARE HERE FOR THE LONG HAUL.
