Cultural Resource Survey Services

Request for Proposals: Due by 5:00 PM on Friday, April 3, 2026

Crook County Soil and Water Conservation District (Crook SWCD) is partnering with USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to assist private landowners in Crook County with cultural resource surveys. This project supports the on-farm portion of the McKay Creek Water Rights Switch project.
The Contractor selected through this RFP will be responsible for providing all services necessary to conduct a cultural resources survey of the Project Areas, to include site records, a final report, maps, and shapefiles of findings. The Contractor will ensure that all cultural resources work, site recording, report standards, site forms, confidentiality standards, and documentation adhere to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines (48 FR 44716, as amended and annotated); the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) guidelines; and the standards found in the Oregon Archeological Site Recording Manual.

Juniper Removal Funding through HB 5006

We are pleased to announce that we are accepting applications from landowners for juniper removal projects.

Crook County Soil and Water Conservation District received a grant from the Oregon legislature through HB 5006 to manage juniper for the purpose of drought relief. The grant provides funds for conservation districts in Central Oregon to address juniper encroachment. Projects must be larger than 100 acres. Applications will be ranked on several factors including impact on water resources and ecological health.

Crook County SWCD is hiring a Local Implementation Team Coordinator!

The Prineville Local Implementation Team (LIT) is a multistakeholder collaborative comprised of local, state, and federal agencies as well as ranchers and nonprofit organizations. The LIT is focused on developing restoration strategies that bring together each partner’s assets to identify and develop projects that will strengthen conservation outcomes through cross-boundary restoration. The coordinator will facilitate partner meetings, manage multiple projects, coordinate outreach, and develop new projects based on the LIT’s shared priorities.
