Can someone without decades of courthouse experience thrive as Register of Wills?

Absolutely. The day-to-day duties of the office are clearly defined by the Maryland Code (§ 2-208), from collecting probate fees to recording inventories. The mechanics can be learned by anyone with a sharp mind. But what cannot be taught is genuine compassion and a desire to serve.

Our county deserves a Register who doesn't treat the position as a routine desk job, but as a community resource. I am stepping up because I have the passion, the drive, and the absolute will to help our residents secure their legacies. Let's bring fresh energy and a helping hand to Caroline County!

Did you know that if you pass away without a will in Caroline County, the state decides how your assets are split? Under Maryland’s Intestacy Laws (§ 3-101 onwards), your property is divided according to strict legal formulas, not your personal wishes.

Part of my mission running for Register of Wills is ensuring every resident from Federalsburg to Greensboro understands the law. You don’t need a law degree to protect your family, just the right resources. As your Register of Wills, I will prioritize community education over paperwork, ensuring our office is an open book for everyone trying to secure their family's future.

What does the Register of Wills actually do? Under § 2-201 of the Maryland Estates and Trusts Article, the Register is responsible for appointing personal representatives, safeguarding wills, and maintaining the crucial records that protect your family’s legacy.

You don’t need to be a career bureaucrat to lead this office, but you do need a servant’s heart and a commitment to clarity. While the technical probate procedures are explicitly outlined by state law, what truly makes the office thrive is a leader who cares about the people walking through the door. I may not be a lifetime politician, but I have the absolute will to help Caroline County families navigate their toughest moments with transparency, empathy, and efficiency.
