For this International Day of Charity, we wanted to share a few things about Ohio Wildlife Center that you may not know. 💜🐾

🐾Ohio Wildlife Center is a small nonprofit organization right here in Central Ohio, dedicated to wildlife rehabilitation and education.

🐾 The friendly faces you meet when you call, volunteer, attend a program, transport an animal, or visit our campus are often volunteers. In fact, our incredible volunteers donate more than 30,000 hours of service every year, helping thousands of wild animals receive the care they need.

🐾 Many people are surprised to learn that we are not a state agency. We purchase permits from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Division of Wildlife to conduct wildlife rehabilitation, just as anglers purchase fishing licenses. (And despite the number of calls we receive asking for them each year, we don't actually sell fishing licenses! 😄)

🐾 Another common misconception is that we receive state or federal funding. We do not. The care we provide is made possible by compassionate supporters like you. Every donation helps provide food, medicine, housing, veterinary care, and a second chance for injured, orphaned, and displaced wildlife.

🐾 Thank you for standing beside us, advocating for wildlife, and supporting our mission. Your generosity and compassion make this work possible, and we are deeply grateful to have you as part of the Ohio Wildlife Center family. 💜🐾

🚨 What if your favorite Pumpkin Spice Latte could save wildlife all year long?

This International Day of Charity, we're inviting you to turn one small monthly indulgence into something extraordinary.

For just $5 a month (about the cost of a PSL) you can help provide food, medication, housing, and lifesaving care for injured and orphaned wild animals at Ohio Wildlife Center.

That latte may only last a morning, but your monthly gift creates hope every single day.

🦉 An owl gets a second chance.
🐿️ A baby squirrel receives around-the-clock care.
🦝 An orphaned animal gets the opportunity to return to the wild where it belongs.

The wildlife emergencies never stop, and neither does the need for compassionate supporters who make our work possible month after month.

Skip one PSL this month and become part of something much bigger. Your recurring gift will help provide healing, rehabilitation, and second chances for thousands of wild animals each year.

❤️ Join our monthly giving community today and make a lasting impact for Ohio's wildlife. https://ohiowildlifecenter.org/?form=FUNQDSDJWBA

I bet our volunteers are breathing a little easier now that our skunks have graduated from the nursery and headed back to the wild! 🦨

While these adorable patients kept us entertained during their stay, their departure has definitely brought a little more fresh air back to the nursery. Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers and staff, these young skunks received the care they needed before returning to their natural home.

Good luck out there, little stinkers! 💚

Thankful Thursday 💜🦅

As we mentioned last week, it truly takes a village to help wildlife.

With the increase of Bald Eagles in care we worked alongside Ohio Bird Sanctuary and Back to the Wild to help continuing care and flight conditioning for multiple species.

Thank you friends for helping us! It’s been a busy year!

As summer comes to a close, we want to send a huge thank you to our camp counselors! These ladies (Evie, Emma, Riley, and Steph) educated more than 310 campers over 10 weeks. They inspired curiosity and sparked a love of nature that we are sure will last a lifetime for our campers!

We thought this feedback from a parent summed up the goal of camp perfectly:
"My kids love this camp for all of the wildlife adventures I love the camp because the counselors care about the kids and their well-being."

Did You Know? 🐦

Ohio Wildlife Center partners with Lights Out Columbus to help monitor bird-window collisions in downtown Columbus.

🐦 Injured birds found through the program receive medical care and treatment at Ohio Wildlife Center.

🐦 Dedicated volunteers survey buildings, collecting data on injured and deceased birds to better understand which species are affected, where collisions occur, and when strike activity is highest.

🐦 This important work helps inform conservation efforts and reduce future bird-window collisions.

Time and time again, when we ask for help, our community steps up. 💜🐾

🐾 Over the past few weeks, severe weather events have created significant challenges for native wildlife living in urban environments. As admissions surged, so did the support from our incredible partners and supporters.

🐾 We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the five correctional institutions that increased the number of wildlife patients in their care, helping ensure our youngest patients received the specialized attention they needed. From baby squirrels requiring feedings every three hours around the clock to songbirds needing care every 15 minutes from sunrise to sunset, their dedication made a tremendous difference.

🐾 We also want to thank our fellow wildlife rehabilitators who partnered with us during this challenging time by taking in orphaned animals we don't have the capacity for. Wildlife rehabilitation is truly a community effort, and we are grateful for their support.

🐾 Finally, thank you to everyone who donated during this wave of orphan admissions. Your generosity provides the food, medical care, and resources needed to give these animals a second chance.

Together, you are helping turn challenges into hope for Ohio’s wildlife.🐾💜
