Baby season is in full force at Ohio Wildlife Center! πŸ’œπŸΌ

Our rehabilitation team of volunteers and staff is currently caring for more than 700 wild patients, and the majority of them are orphaned babies who need specialized care, warmth, nutrition, and around-the-clock attention to have a chance at returning to the wild.

From tiny songbirds and squirrels to young rabbits, opossums, and raptors, every patient depends on the generosity of our community.

You can make an immediate difference by helping us stock up on much-needed supplies through our Amazon Wishlist. Every item purchased goes directly to supporting the hundreds of wildlife babies currently in our care. πŸ¦‰πŸΏοΈπŸ¦…πŸ¦

Thank you for helping us give these vulnerable little ones a second chance. ❀️

πŸ“† Spots are Running OUT!

Charcuterie For The Critters

June 13th 2025 | 10:00am-12:00pm

Join us for Charcuterie for the Critters! At this family-friendly community event, come help us prepare animal diets for our Wildlife Rehabilitation Center animals to help alleviate our staff and volunteers during the busy season.

You will pick your two favorite animals from the list of four we will have and build your own "charcuterie board" for them based on their specific diets! You and your family will learn what different species of animals eat, what certain species can't eat, how feeding wild animals the wrong foods can cause unintentional harm, and how to peacefully coexist with our wild friends.

Then, you meet one of our animal ambassador mammals and watch them munch on a board! Weather permitting, we will also take a tour to meet our other outside ambassadors. Spots are very limited- sign up today!

Freedom Friday! πŸ’œπŸΎ

Thank you for the amazing review and storytelling from the presenter:

"Ohio Wildlife Center Rehabilitation Center is amazing. The humans that work there caring for the wildlife are a gift. During the big snow storm we had in February, a Virginia opossum found us for help. We reached out to some vet med friends and the Ohio Wildlife Center and volunteers through Facebook helped us know how two keep him safe until the roads were cleared to get there. They treated his frostbitten tail and he even had jaw surgery to repair a broken jaw (as he had lost a canine tooth). We had the joy of releasing him back into our area this past week after they lovingly rehabilitated him for several months. Sydney is phenomenal and kept us up to date on everything about our Opossum friend anytime we'd ask. It was magical watching him go back into his habitat and be safe and healthy. Thank you Ohio Wildlife Center for all you do. You truly are angels on this earth!"

Thankful Thursday! πŸ’šβ™»

With the support of The Columbus Foundation Greens Funds, we have moved forward with conservation on our One Campus here on Cook Rd!

was our lead on the projects here on campus with their expertise.

If you come during our Second Sunday Open House you will see the addition of a vernal pool on our trail! We are excited to see in future years what species we will be able to teach about to campers, scout programs and more!

We also had bathymetry mapping and species collection done on our pond. While they reviewed this, they found a young paper pondshell mussel, which are a protected species in the state, a positive indicator of pond health and help improve the water quality through filtration!

Wildlife Wednesday πŸ’œπŸ¦…

Osprey Patient ID 941 from Delaware County, Ohio, is making incredible progress in the flight space! Watching this patient regain strength and confidence after such a difficult injury has been inspiring for our team.

While there’s still a long road ahead to rebuild muscle and stamina, we are hopeful that a release back into the wild could be on the horizon soon. Every flight, every meal, and every day of healing is a step closer to freedom. πŸ’š

A baby bird fell out of the nest, what do I do?

🐦Look directly above where the bird was found or in the immediate surrounding area for trees or bushes to locate the nest. You can also watch from a distance to see or hear if there is other bird activity that can clue you in on the nest.

🐦If the bird appears uninjured, place the bird back in its nest or construct an artificial nest if the original nest cannot be located or is too high.

🐦If unsure of the age, try placing the bird in the nest. If it hops back out, it’s probably a fledgling. These young birds are typically lousy flyers the first
time they leave the nest. They have not fully developed their flight muscles or skills and are somewhat uncoordinated. These grounded young birds are usually able to fly within a few days.

If you have a concern about a young bird, give us a call at (614) 793-9453 or message us directly for more advice. Or visit https://www.ohiowildlifecenter.org/found-an-animal/

Today is World Turtle Day and Brandy, the Blanding’s turtle, sure knows how to celebrate!

Brandy was confiscated from an illegal pet trafficker in 2002 and is not allowed to be released back into the wild.

With us, she enjoys basking under her heat lamp, eating earthworms, and of course, getting a little scrub on that hard to reach itch.
