Weekend door knocking update -- and a couple of stories I have to share.
I spent Friday and Saturday on Bainbridge Island, today in Silverdale and Bremerton, and I'm finishing the night in Poulsbo. Our goal for the weekend was 500 houses. We're close and we're staying out until we get there.
Here's what I heard at the doors today.
In Silverdale I spoke with a gentleman named Mike who is waiting on a decision in a civil lawsuit. It's been a couple of months and he's frustrated with how long it's taking. I want to be honest with him and with all of you -- the Clerk's office can't control how long a judge takes to render a decision. That's not our role.
But what we can do is make sure every litigant who comes through that courthouse has complete, quality materials in front of them so the process moves as smoothly as possible. That's a big focus of mine.
In Poulsbo I spoke with a woman named Linda who received a jury summons about a month ago. She went to the county website, read through 50 or 60 FAQs, stressed herself out about what her day in court was going to look like -- and showed up to the courthouse three hours early because she was worried about parking.
Three hours early. Because of stress that didn't need to exist.
Jury duty is a critical role in our justice system. It shouldn't feel like a burden. I've answered questions live on my website and written blog posts specifically to help people understand the process before they walk through those doors.
I'll pin those links below. If you or someone you know has received a jury summons, please share this post. It could save someone a very early morning.
