Thank you to everyone who came to the first District 3 Budget Town Hall at the Mt. Scott Community Center! And huge thanks to for setting this up. Portlanders asked for accountability for the undisclosed housing funds and we are delivering. Me and Councilor Green’s teams went through approximately 3,000 public records to piece together a timeline for why the Executive Branch did not disclose information about housing dollars to City Council. We are the budget authority, we have the power of the purse, we represent districts. If we don’t have a seat at the table, neither do you.

Yesterday I got to visit in District 3, a makespace that is by the people and for the people! Past Lives was founded by a formerly incarcerated person who believes that no one is irredeemable, everyone deserves a second chance, and that they should be given the tools to expand their skills and be a part of the community. We got to meet highly skilled carpenters, metal workers, mechanics, and artists who each contribute to the culture of our city.

I am proud to highlight this gem in District 3!

Today is Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day. We honor and remember the six million Jewish people and the millions of q***r people, disabled people, Polish and Slavic people, political dissidents like socialists, communists, and unionists, and many others who were murdered by the N**i party.

Every year the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education holds a memorial in Pioneer Square where people are invited to read the names of those who passed.

Today I read names for just ten minutes, and the community took turns reading names until the end of the day.
Fighting back fascism and the supremacy culture that leads to the genocide of entire populations is something we will practice our entire lives, and I am grateful to have had a small but important part in that today.

May their memory be a blessing.
