A vibrant and incredibly diverse neighborhood, PGN boasts not only tremendous cultural and ethnic diversity, but also has or is immediately adjacent to some of the most incredible nature-based assets in the City of Portland. Residents enjoy great schools, countless Douglas firs, and large lots perfect for urban agriculture — a fitting tribute to the Neighborhood's farming past. Powellhurst-Gilbert

Neighborhood also has a very active Neighborhood Community Group and was named, the 2009 Spirit of Portland Neighborhood of the Year! (except July, August, and December)

Brief background of ask:
The Jade District is one of the most park deficient areas of Portland and residents have been advocating for a park and more greenspace for years, as evidenced in the 2014 Jade District community visioning. This visioning showed a desire and need for greenspace across ethnic/racial groups in the neighborhood.
The lot at 2815 SE 90th Place (90th Pl. and 89th Ave.) was purchased by Metro Transit Oriented Development (TOD) in 2025 to develop affordable housing. This same lot was designated the only suitable area for a park in the Jade District by the 2018 EPA Greening the Jade project.
Metro TOD has informed us that they would be willing to sell the parcel, but we are on a deadline. Metro will release a RFP (Request for Proposals) for developers by August or September 2026. Once they do this, it will be too late.
We are advocating and requesting that the City of Portland and Portland Parks and Recreation purchase the lot back from Metro.

Our friends at Solve are hosting a neighborhood cleanup at 122nd & Holgate on February 28 from 10am-12pm!

Volunteers will meet in the Electric Lettuce parking lot and then move out into the surrounding neighborhood to pick up litter. We will especially focus on the abandoned lot across the street. We would appreciate it if folks could sign up for the event beforehand, so we know how many supplies to bring.

Our friends at Safe Blocks is hosting a Community Cleanup event next week (January 28th)!
Free snacks for all volunteers! Come join us and pick up some trash!

Thank you so much to everyone who attended our trash cleanup today! We had a great turn out and cleaned up at least 300 lbs of trash off Powell Blvd!
