As I attend memorial services today, my heart is heavy with the memories of September 11, 2001, a day that forever changed our nation and each of us.
I will never forget the innocent men and women whose lives were taken, the heroes who ran toward danger, or the families who still carry the pain of that horrific Tuesday.
During my 33 years with the Police Department, I learned many lessons about courage, sacrifice, service, and leadership. But on that day, I witnessed something that will remain with me forever: in our darkest hour, the American people stood together as one nation, united by grief, strengthened by love, and determined never to forget.
May we always honor those we lost, cherish the heroes who answered the call, and remember the unity that brought us together.
We will never forget.
